Board of Studies reveals raw marks! (2001)

The student made a request under the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (NSW). The Board initially decided to deny the request and the student subsequently applied to the Administrative Decisions Tribunal for a review of that decision. During the course of those proceedings, the Board was given...

Board of Studies reveals raw marks! (2001)

For the first time since the new HSC was introduced in 2001, an HSC student has been able to successfully obtain their own raw examination marks from the NSW Board of Studies. This unprecedented level of disclosure has accelerated the NSW education system along the path to the ideal of a system...

    LAWS1052 in-class test

I simply don't have time, heh... and I'm already tutoring a computer science subject. http://www.boredofstudies.org/james/s1tt.html 1) Identify the subject of the question (e.g. what the rule of law is). 2) Take a critical position; don't sit on the fence unless you can do it really well. 3)...

    LAWS1052 in-class test

I got an HD. They're generally not good because it's generally not possible to predict questions (and so you end up trying to shape your prepared answer to the question and it is never nearly as good as it could have been). I would have abandoned my prepared answers had I been given different...

    LAWS1052 in-class test

You don't have to actually do that much. Plus, that document was the product of a joint effort. I think I would have only referred to, at most, half of it during the test itself. Hmm, I also prepared some essay responses (you can usually predict the questions), not quite sure where they are...

    LAWS1052 in-class test

This is an example of what I (and my group) compiled on our case last year - http://www.boredofstudies.org/james/Damjanovic%20v%20Maley.pdf The most important thing is to sit down and completely work through it. Can be productive to do so with friends (up to a point). I have a copy of our...

    Accelerants affecting scalingq

With very few students, there is likely to be a high degree of variability within the candidature. It's possible for a high scaled standard deviation to undo the effect of a high scaled mean... particularly if you're below the average within that course.

    Are UAIs likely to settle?

We really don't know. More info is going to be released in the full 2003 scaling report later this year - perhaps that will help.

    Are UAIs likely to settle?

I wouldn't call those 'drastic' jumps. :) I'd expect the same sort of one or two point variability to continue.

who finks foundations of law = extremely boring

Yes. Just make up some excuse for the law office ladies (e.g. other commitments scheduled for that time have recently come up), and hope you get the nice one when you go in to swap classes. I wouldn't leave it any later though.

    scaling changes

I can only assume that you were looking at the wrong course - nothing has been changed recently. The scaling for Standard/Advanced English is generally pretty average anyway.

who finks foundations of law = extremely boring

It's not going to help you pick out the ratio of a case though. :) Discussions on topical issues are great, but they definitely shouldn't constitute the entirety of the class.

    2003 Exam, Question 8 - Finally resolved!

The logic behind the answer must inevitably revolve around the fact that contract law provides a feasible remedy whereas tort law does not. Division 2A of Part V of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (specifically, s 74H) creates a statutory form of action against the manufacturer or importer of...

    O'camp?

You won't get to pick your groups. The camp committee will have sorted you into what it deems to be appropriate mixes. ;) And each group of ten students will be assigned three leaders.
