Just questions about NGO and Sons and Dr Du

Yep, I agree with that. I just wanted to make sure that OP was aware of this, as it can be quite a nervous change adapting from his usual school cohort to his tutoring cohort, which as you mentioned, can get very competitive.

Advanced math or Standard math with a bridging course later on?

Well, I'd say there are 2 benefits to doing Standard Maths instead of Advanced Maths. 1) Although the scaling isn't as favourable as Advanced, if you are more confident in doing Standard Maths if you can achieve a much better rank, then you should do so (as for internals, performance is all...

Should it be the formula sheet included the following

If only English had some allowance for a formula sheet (not sure how it would work, but I'm sure most students would gladly be open to the idea of something like this)

English Paper 2 Predictions & Thoughts

That's definitely much better (getting 7.5 hours of sleep) then what your friend is planning to do. For future though, please don't sleep till 3am or sometime ridiculous in the morning and stay up without getting the right sleep. I can't reinforce enough how important quality sleep is. You will...

English Paper 2 Predictions & Thoughts

So I don't remember now what the play is about (it happens when it's been a year since you've thrown out your books), but if you can encapsulate the important ideas in your quote, then an ellipsis should be fine. Obviously, with the example you gave above with the "mighty ... to be fear'd", if...

    Reading Time

I think they normally do, because what happened with me last year was that our inviligators wanted everyone to go through their exams, to make sure people didn't have an incorrectly printed out exam. Inadvertently, it allowed us to read the questions beforehand, but they made sure no one stayed...

English Paper 2 Predictions & Thoughts

Not necessarily (I believe, but someone can correct me if otherwise) ... a common thing students will do is purposefully choose short quotes, or if they have a long quote which fits their analysis, they will include an ellipsis (...) to break it in the middle

    Economics HSC Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Definitely really tough to have Economics the day after English as it will definitely make you much more relieved having completed English once and for all and wanting to have a break, but good luck for everyone doing economics (extra mention to economics students also doing Modern History, as I...

    English Paper 1 Predictions/Thoughts

I can agree that a persuasive wouldn't be most students' first choice where they to be given a choice. However, it definitely is wise to at least know thoroughly how to structure one, as it is in their liberty to ask you. In that case, I'd recommend reading the link below (from Art of Smart if...

Just questions about NGO and Sons and Dr Du

Note that going to a selective school myself, I was pretty much one of 3 or 4 students who didn't go to Dr Du for Maths, that's how popular it is for selective school students in particular, and for a good reason. They do go quite ahead with the content and will tutor students who will get the...

    Reading Time

Definitely would be unacceptable for Maths and the sciences ... I don't really get why you would need to for English (unless you are inquiring about Maths or the sciences), but in any case, I would stay on the safe side for sure

    Reading Time

I don't think so, as this can give students some what of an advantage. I believe the only thing you are allowed to have in your hands is the exam booklet.

    reflection structure

Well, it does depend on what the question asks. Considering the 2019 Module C reflection question (as last year's exam didn't have one): Compare how you have used language in part (a) to evoke emotion with the way writing has been crafted in at least ONE prescribed text from Module C. You...

    mod b help!!

It really does depend on the individual text you are doing, as it will vary (so for King Henry IV, you would be able to talk about monologue, dramatic irony and consider it as a play more than just a text, but some Module B texts won't have an element of film in it)

    English Paper 1 Predictions/Thoughts

So if I'm right, the general consensus is that Section 1 was more difficult than previous years (in terms of what the texts were asking you to analyse) while Section 2 (the essay) was to quite a generic questions, thus, making it easier than previous years (especially easier than 2019, not too...

    mod b help!!

As a basis, you could change how you respond to the question as well. For example, if you are doing Shakespeare, instead of saying "Shakespeare invokes THEME X to show QUALITY X of Prince Harry through TECHNIQUE X", you could rephrase it to something like "Shakespeare utilizes the technique of...

    mod b help!!

You would need to make your topic sentences and your intro heavily focused on distinctive features, and put your strongest distinctive feature at first. Chances are they won't read the entire essay, so it will be important you start strong (with a strong introduction, 1st body paragraph...

what types of forms can we use for imaginative

I believe so, as imaginative writing is very loose and very flexible, as long as it addresses the question and incorporates stylistic features (at least one used in your Module C prescribed text). The great thing about imaginative/creative writing is that you can write about literally anything...

English Paper 2 Predictions & Thoughts

I think last year's Module A was quite generic, thus not too hard, while Module B's question was specifically on 'concerns and aesthetic qualities' of students' respective texts, which is definitely more specific and thus hard. I think though as Module B is a critical study of literature, it...
