    Picking a medium/topic

I'm one of those yr 11s who want's to do EEX2 in year 12. I know we can't actually have classes or get advised by teachers yet, but the consensus is that you should get a head start and at least think about what to do. What are the current year 12's advice on picking a medium or topic? Do...

Subjects that you ace but hate

Legal Studies. Ranked 1st, but I'm dropping it next year. My teacher wanted a parent-teacher interview with my mum to convince her and me to stick with it for year 12. Joy :)

What do you feel about Extension 1 English?

There's reading, of course because it's english. You don't do multiple choice in year 11 for english. If you're a talented stduent and teacher thinks you're up for it, then why not?

What to do to get chosen for Prefect + without over doing it?

To me, prefect is one of those things where if you genuinely want to do it, you try out, hope for the best, and if you don't get it, then that's cool too. Being all try-hard and bitchy about it will get you no where. There is no way to make people vote for you. It comes from years and years of...

English Advanced assessment task notification for upcoming half yearly: 'You will view a visual test and represent aspects of this text and its connection with Dorothy Parker's poetry, in the form of an imaginative recreation.' It's a bit vague...What do you guys make of this??

When given an assignment that requires researching....

I agree with the majority in saying that you would never cite or use information from Wikipedia, but would use it to gain a basic understanding of concepts. Once i have a bsaic understanding, i go for online encyclopedias/journals/credible sites for foundation information , then books for...

advice.. 12 units in hsc, or 10?? what if i bomb out?

It really depends on how well you cope. You could do 11 units somehow: you could drop an extension and keep legal, or drop legal and pick up another extension; like i probably will with legal and english extension 2

How does the poem "The Door"-Miroslav Holub relate to australian identity?

Um I don't know about any poems except Dorothea Mackellar's "Sunburnt Country" and Graeme Connor's "The Great Australian Dream". Excerpts by Time Winton such as from his book "Land's Edge" could work. This link is alright True Blue?: On Being Australian - Google Book Search.

How does the poem "The Door"-Miroslav Holub relate to australian identity?

It's quite hard to really link to Australian identity: have you tried googling him or the poem to get some context to see where he's coming from. Well the foucs of the poem is what's beind the door. The thing that jumps out to me is that there is something out there that we don't know about...

    Half-yearlies..

We have heard nothing about them, and our asessment booklet has not indicated an exam block dedicated to half yearlies, but prelim exams are all scheduled in. I really hope that means we don't have them :)

Think this is a good idea?

I think notes is more about learning and corroborating Information. I left my legal studies textbook in my locker, so for my notes these hols I'll use some of the worksheets I was given in class, plus a study guide and the resuources section. My teachers say that online resources from...

    Suggestions--what makes a good speech?

I have never said "good morning/afternoon" in a speech and have always gotten close to full marks. It wastes time and audience interaction is achieved through eye contact, rhetorical questions etc. Would you write "thank you for reading" at the bottom of an essay?

    subject choice for journalist

I would say EE2 would be an important part of your HSC if you did journalism. I was talking to our careers advisor at school and they recommend Economics if you want to journalism because it makes you more employable if you understand economic policy with governments and taxes and stuff like...
