    Chemistry Marathon (HSC)

This is for people doing industrial chem- I won't post any more optional questions because not everyone can do them obviously but this one is fantastic and deserves to posted: The ionisation of acetic acid can be written as CH3COOH -> <- CH3COO (-) + H (+). The equilibrium constant for this...

    Cation and Anion Identification?

Yeah its in the syllabus so it can definitely come up. You need to know how to test for: phosphate, sulfate, carbonate, chloride, barium, calcium, lead, copper, iron

FREE MX2/MX1/2UMaths/Physics/Biology HSC PRACTICE EXAM- Prep you for term 4 exams!

Re: FREE MX2/MX1/2UMaths/Physics/Biology HSC PRACTICE EXAM- Prep you for term 4 exams Well done guys- this is a great idea imo. Say for the maths papers though, I'm guessing for MX2 that it'll just have complex numbers or are you assuming knowledge of the whole course?

    Significant Figures

No your working should not be rounded at any step except the end. Write it out to like 2 or three d.p's during working (doesn't matter) but write next to it-> Full answer kept in calc. Only ever round at the end otherwise you get errors

    Physics marathon (hsc)

Momentum does remain constant. The exhaust gases are ejected at a constant speed and rate, thus the momentum of the exhaust gases is constant. The momentum of the rocket therefore also remains constant (in the other direction). As the mass of the rocket is decreasing however but the momentum...

No- he concluded that A was correct as otherwise it would conflict with relativity as if he couldn't see himself, then that means that he is travelling at c and he has therefore worked out that his speed in an inertial frame without referring to an outside frame of reference. After concluding...

    The Football Thread

Re: The Official A-League Thread. Where do the wanderers play and is the stadium normally full? The atmosphere for Sydney was decent but it was at the ANZ stadium so there were about 20,000 people out of 80,000 seats so obviously that impacted the atmosphere. I might come to some Wanderer's games.

Re: The Official A-League Thread. Are the wanderer's good? I watched the Sydney game on Sunday- that was pretty good but then I watched Liverpool vs. Everton later that night and well... the A-League lacks a lot (though we all knew that). After HSC though I'll probs go to quite a few A-League...

What are some awards teachers can nominate you for in year 12?

Yes lol ask the school. If they weren't planning on nominating someone its hardly 'unhumble' to ask. Worst case they say no and you are were you are now- you've got nothing to lose from asking.

    Physics marathon (hsc)

Ah yes- cheers :) How would you write the bolded bit as an answer? Thanks bro Ok here's a diagram: Basically at the start, you have a P type semiconductor and an N-type semiconductor. The P type has an excess of positive holes and the N-type electrons. Now the some of the electrons from the...

    1. Maxwell predicted that since a changing electric current induced a magnetic field and a changing magnetic field induced an electric current, then theoretically electromagnetic waves should be able to self- propogate throughout space. Hertz used a high voltage induction coil in order to create...

    Detailed vs Brief notes

As enoilgam said and I've said heaps of times, whatever works for you. Me personally, I don't even write my own notes- I just read a few sets of other peoples notes (which are very detailed) and go from there. That works for me. You need to experiment and find what works for you

Do you know why they don't teach us why E=hf solved the ultraviolet catastrophe? Its because this is the equation to model the black body radiation curve: I mean that's obviously too simple for HSC- they don't want everyone getting full marks :p Shit haha though- it shows what some real...

Oh right- thanks for the explanation :) Haha I've noticed that with a lot of HSC phys/chem- they teach some very advanced concepts but oversimplify them so we can understand them at the expense of being totally accurate

Is it wrong? I thought it was correct for Type 1 superconductors but didn't explain Type 2? I might be wrong though. As far as I know, they've still got no idea how Type 2 superconductors work. My personal favourite is in industrial chem for the extraction of sulfur and they teach us the...
