My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

That's fine, you're essentially showing the same thing, but addressing its complement. you're in the clear, its justTheOnePheeph and I who have to be worried about the markers deducting marks lol

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Exactly what I did, which is why I think I lost marks for prob. for not showing an infinite sum, but I don’t know, they might think its a different way of thinking. By the way, did you get \left(\dfrac{y}{w}\right)^2>\left(\dfrac{y}{w}\right)+1 and then...

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

I think the most common solution to that was a GP infinite sum, which once you summed gave you a quadratic - seemed awfully 2u like in that sense, just with an inequality.

I checked rawmarks.info, 77 aligned to a 90. But that might have been the extreme end for a 90, I have no idea of the exact e4 cut off though. Its weird, because I remember when Carrotsticks posted his solutions to the 2017 paper, he said it was hard and expected the e4 cut off to be around 68...

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Oh no haha. Any suggestions for the best compromise for my interests + salary? Seeing all your degrees, major respect for any input haha.

mate, if a marker marks you down for alt. methods, they don’t deserve to mark. But I agree it was harder than 2017 and 2014, so hopefully alignment won’t be messed up like 2017 and align a 77 to 90. What are your predictions on e4 cut offs? Im guessing around a 75

Also many thanks for the insights! I never knew science‘s issue was with job prospects and not salary, haha i guess my passive learning through archetyping by sitcoms kinda misinformed me haha.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

The exam was pretty easy, easier than previous years. But i think i made a few silly errors as well. I looked at 16(c) and was like nah, if i try this im not gonna get any marks so its not worth it so i went back and checked. To my demise, i went home and tried 16(c) again and pulled it off...

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

But the thing is initially I was passionate about physics/maths, only changed to actuary because it was a compromise between what I liked to study (maths) and salary (I’ve heard physicists don’t make that much). Thus, I feel by doing both I’m at an advantage.

I’m sure you’ll do fine mate. Just be content with what you get acknowledging all the hard work you put in.

Hey Buzman, just out of curiosity, what level of maths do you do?

Lol, I’m changing my first preference right now, haha.

Oh damn. Also, does UNSW offer actuarial + maths? If so that sounds way better for me! The only reason I was planning USYD as my second preference for advanced science (maths major) was because if I didn’t get into actuarial, I wanted to do science/maths.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Mate, I can relate so hard. I go to a low ranked school, so no one got an e4 in any prior years; hence I always envisioned it as this unattainable goal. But once I started to enjoy and understand the art of mathematics, I just really wanted to go against all odds and perform really well - toward...

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Also, I’m not annoyed because I think that anything below raw 90 is bad, I’m just sad my anxiety and stress resulted in me losing unnecessary marks which I could’ve gotten otherwise. Edit: Hope I don’t sound cocky or arrogant to anyone, I just relied on maths to boost my atar, so I am...

    Maths Extension 2 predictions/thoughts?

I think 75-77, seems only slightly more difficult than 2017 which had a alignment of 77 to 90.

Honestly same :( I was aiming for 97 and was confident I’d get it and now I’m just depressed.

Also guys, what do you think an 85 would align to? I made too many careless mistakes on an easy paper and I’m actually so pissed at myself :(
