    Getting into Medicine

i'm sure it's of benefit to have had medical experience (ie. volunteering in related fields) or good extracirricular activities as it shows you are well rounded and a motivated, balanced individual.. however i'm pretty certain (if not positive) that the CHIEF determining factor for getting into...

    Distinction Course Discussion

i was discussing problem 18 with my dad this morning.. on first reading, Problem 18 pretty much blew my mind :hippie: i found that Godfrey-Smith's analysis (and subsequent tearing down of the problem) got to the main problems and pointed out the weaknesses pretty well. i mean i couldn't get...

Philosophy stuff arrived this morning! 4 Core Module booklets, a study guide and various admin papers from UNE. i must admit, my first source of excitement was: the colour of the booklets (RED!) and the cool looking cover typography (who knew BOS could be capable of good graphic...

Difference between prelim and HSC marks??

Yes, why should there be any correlation between Prelim and HSC marks? The two have nothing to do with each other, apart from as a reflection of the effort you've put in at each year. A good student during prelim, might continue to do well in HSC, that's great. At the same time, a student...

    Mind & Morality

i assume (as it's provided by USyd) that the university library being spoken of is the Fisher Library. No, it doesn't really have HSC resources (ie. textbooks, studyguides) as such, you would be better off going to your school or local library for those materials. What uni libraries offer...

you think they be the same time? I have a feeling not; firstly because as you said, the philosophy residentials are only 2dayers over weekends in the city rather than week long expeditions, but secondly because the philosophy residentials correspond to the modules, (ie. held after 1/2 and 3/4...

    Student Online?

ah, sorry completely forgot about the acceleration thing. in any case, don't worry about getting studentonline any earlier or later. I've logged in about twice and trust me, it's not particularly useful. basically it gives you the Board of Studies links (easily accesible anyway) and a calender.

HSC in year 11 AND year 12

Smiths Hill High in Woolongong, please note though, Daniel is an exceptional case. He either topped or got a state ranking in every one of his subjects. :spin: and (oh what a suprise) got 100 UAI.

worst/best english novel you have ever read in school?

Worst: Chain of Hearts...biggest load of pseudo-angst teen-y crap i have ever read. Best: this year, Letters to Alice by Fay Weldon.

HSC in year 11 AND year 12

i think the issue of acceleration depends on the subjects themselves, certain subjects are easier than others and some subjects are simply not suited for acceleration. For example english or history is generally not recommended as an accelerated subject as it takes time to build up the depth...

    controversial related texts...

i wouldn't say Lolita is a very controversial/cotentious text these days... i mean my sister in year 9 is studying it! i suppose the controversy may arise if you take a particularly extreme view that is disturbing to social norms or political correctness. but that doesn't sound like...

that's a shame, commiserations :( but your positive attitude is wonderful to see, and in all likelihood with your motivation and work ethic, i've no doubt you'll do just as well with your subjects in 2009! :) I imagine that things were very tight this year...i had been told that in previous...
