The HSC exams are human marked. So I'm sure the marker will know what you are talking about, and they usually follow a marking guideline. Most likely there won't be any loss of marks if it's plain obvious what you are writing about.

You can't really say it 'scales you down'. If in the end you attain a poor rank, and the mark corresponding of that rank is poor, then your Assessment mark will be poor and the average of your moderated assessment mark + HSC exam mark taken.

Aligned marks cannot be compared between subjects. Those two marks of 79 mean different things and are not the same.
