    Maths Help

This. I didn't even know what 4U was until I hit year 11, and didn't get offered to do it until 4 weeks before year 11 finished, but I still got an E4.

Need to explain in perms/combs answer?

I don't think you need to, but it could help to show what your thinking is if you don't get the correct answer because it will make it clearer for the marker and you might get some marks for working. I always used to write it out anyway so I could make sure I wasn't missing anything out/counting...

My mum won't let me drop and I didn't hand in the first assessment.

If your mum refuses to sign the form to let you drop, just don't turn up to the classes/do any assignments. If your teachers know the story, they will probably just N-award you. You won't be allowed to take the course and your mum can't do anything about it.

Help! Is it possible to improve the speed and accuracy of doing conics questions?

It's just practice. By the end of 4U, I could write out the derivation of every formula used in conics because I went over them so much. Repetition will also help you notice if you make a small error in your working, which is easy to do. And as Carrotsticks said, look at what the question...

Always go to sleep after school for around 1-2 hours

It isn't necessarily a bad thing to sleep in the afternoon. I studied most effectively at night, so I would always sleep for a couple hours when I got home from school and then study till about 1 in the morning. I still got my 8 hours sleep, but I just split it up to accommodate my study habits.

    Language Techniques Help

I had a quick skim through the poem and found plenty of techniques. If you're having trouble with it, just look for simple ones like alliteration and metaphors. In the HSC, you're gonna have to pick out language techniques from at least 4 unknown texts in 40 minutes. It's gonna be more...

    Needing help

Have you considered getting someone to be a mentor for you? Someone who has done the HSC to calm you down and help you when you're stressed and finding it difficult to study. Worked well for a few people in my year.

90+ atar with Standard and industrial tech

Quite likely if you put in enough effort. Don't let the poor scaling of these subjects make you think that it isn't possible to get a high ATAR. Last year someone got 99.95 doing drama.

How to find the domain of a log function?

If you can't find the limits algebraically, then it's perfectly fine to chuck in a really big/small number to see what the limit is.

Are there scaling of these subjects bad

They're all quite poor scaling. I'm pretty sure Legal would scale the best. All this means is that you really need to get high band 5s or band 6s to not be affected by the scaling.

    Maths homework takes so long?!

What is your definition of "Most of my night"? How many hours are you studying and how much of that is maths? It might be because you're doing every question and gaining no benefit from it. If you're finding every question easy, there's no need to keep doing the exercise. If I found a topic...

Content mutual to year 11 and 12

Physics/Chem - There's not really any content you need to remember, but the skills you learn in year 11 are assumed knowledge in year 12. Things like balancing equations and mole calculations in chem, appropriate use of formulas in physics. MX1/MX2 - Everything from year 11 Advanced/Extension...

    What are your favourite subjects?

Maths! It's the only subject where you don't lose marks due to subjective marking criteria.
