    Is anyone scared ?

It's not that important. Within 4 days of getting my ATAR, I didn't give a fuck about it, or anything to do with the HSC. I was actually surprised at how quickly I forgot about, and I didn't even get the ATAR I wanted. After you finish year 12, you'll realise that ATAR really isn't important in...

Struggling in maths really badly. Please help :(

This. How much studying do you do on your own? Plus, do you use your school teacher as a resource for extra help? Majority of teachers will be happy to help you. Since your 3U cohort is 48 students, I'm guessing there's at least 3 teachers that teach the 3U course? I'm sure at least one of them...

I am the only person doing MX2 - how will this affect me?

I was the only one in my MX2 class, and I loved it. The thing is that you have to keep motivated throughout the year, despite the fact that you're guaranteed to rank first, which is what I struggled with after my first term on MX2. MX2 requires a consistent effort throughout the whole year, but...

Can you pick up Extension 2 Maths without being recommended?

You don't need to be recommended, but I would advise you to ask your teacher after you finish your prelims if they think you're competent enough to take up 4U. If they say that you're gonna struggle, then you will most likely struggle.

New laws to combat alcohol fuelled violence - Will they be effective or not?

Genius. Majority of these cowards hits happen on the streets, so lets just introduce laws that are gonna put more intoxicated people on the street at once! Last drinks at 3am will mean that the club closes at 3am, so I'm predicting quite a lot of shit to go down at 3am. Tbh I reckon a better...

How did you become good at Physics calculations?

I just paid attention in Year 8 maths. Seriously, the maths isn't that difficult. It's just plugging numbers into a formula. Just keep on practicing and you won't find it hard at all.

Will you be penalised if you use Ext 1 method in a 2U paper?

Of course you can. I would regularly use 3U methods in 2U, and 4U methods in 3U. Some very hard questions can be made very easy by applying stuff you learned in higher level maths. But as said before, make sure that the method is applicable because if you get it wrong, you will get zero. You...

    Should I do MX2

Really, the only two things you need to consider is if you are willing to put the effort in, and if you are capable at doing it. For me, 3/4U took up 2-3 hours a day for homework/study, so if you feel comfortable that you can fit that into your day, then definitely go for it. The thing that...

    Driver Knowledge Test

Yeah just be as conservative as fuck. Half the questions you don't even need to tap for the screen for because it's unsafe. Also, at the end of each question you get asked if you tapped the screen, and you have to choose yes or no. So if you tapped the screen, but you're not confident with...

    Free Periods

I would try to get my maths homework done during my frees, so that I would only have my English/Science homework to do at home, and then I could study. But the amount of times my friends would suggest a maccas run. You never say no to maccas.

PAST HSC'ERS: What advice would give to parents who kids are starting Prelim & HSC?

Re: PAST HSC'ERS: What advice would give to parents who kids are starting Prelim & HS My parents were good in the sense that they never questioned my study habits and never pushed me to pick up certain subjects. If they saw me chilling on the couch when I got home from school, they knew I was...

    Thinking about the optional topics

Pretty much. You can tell how much people have studied by how well they go in Q2Q, because it is 95% learn and regurgitate in the exam. Very little calculations, and what calculations that is there is simple addition and subtraction of numbers (Mass defect), as well as using a basic formula. Q2Q...

    Thinking about the optional topics

Do the one your class is doing. Learning from your teacher will be much more beneficial. For the record, I did Q2Q, and it's pretty much all rote learned. Very little calculations and almost no concepts that need to be picked up. It was boring as fuck.

    subject selection help!!

I reckon you should pick up another 2-unit subject, just for reassurance in case you don't like one of your subjects. 13 units for prelim isn't that much work, and if you end up hating one of your subjects, you will be able to drop it, which is what happened to me. Start of year 11, I was...

What impact did the MM experiment have on the Aether model and other theories eg. Einsteins theory of relativity.

    Motion and physics

Someone doing physics would have little advantage over someone that isn't. HSC physics doesn't even come close to touching on the maths that you will use in mechanics, so while they might have a little advantage with the concepts of mechanics, it will be an even playing field when it comes to...

    Need some advice..

Do you actually need that much tutoring? Because it sounds like your interpretation of studying is purely tutoring, no independent work. Tbh I think you can gain the same benefits from tutoring by self motivating your self to study and getting your teachers to mark your homework, which is all...

Confusing Chord of Contact proof by Cambridge

Umm, chord of contact is in the syllabus. Straight from the syllabus on BOS website under 9.6: The equation of the chord of contact of the tangents from an external point. And so who cares if it hasn't been asked. It's bound to come around eventually. And going by the last 10 years of HSC...

Confusing Chord of Contact proof by Cambridge

I haven't seen a HSC paper where they guide you through a proof in a veeeeery long time, and now with MC, I don't think you will see one again because they don't have as many marks to allocate to long response questions. Plus it's extension 1, they're not gonna hold your hand through a proof...

Confusing Chord of Contact proof by Cambridge

I would definitely advise against rote learning the formula. 99 times out of 100, if a question involves a parametric equation, it will get you to prove the equation first.
