Is cramming an effective study technique?

Nope! If that was the case then who on earth would argue that as a bad idea. Cramming is leaving everything to the last minute (ie. two weeks) and pounding your brain with insane amounts of information purely for the sake of short term retention.

Is cramming an effective study technique?

Or even a few weeks. Second year MedSc is absolutely insane in terms of content, each lecture is like a HUGE chunk of a textbook, and you have to know it VERY well. We have 78 of those lectures, and that's not even counting our fourth elective subject.

Is cramming an effective study technique?

Then that's not cramming - it's intensse revision!

Is cramming an effective study technique?

That's not cramming, that's 'revising' (which is an excellent concept). Ask any distinguished high achiever, lecturer or academic whether cramming is an 'effective' study technique. Sy123 hit the nail on the head, any idiot who's bummed during the sem can cram, obtain a pseudo-understanding of...

    Developing a band 6 thesis

+1 to most of this post, although the example thesis you've given doesn't pertain strongly to the module rubric (critical study) and is written rather poorly - "challenges readers"? To do what? (Writing 'challenges readers' pre-existing BELIEFS' would've made it marginally better, albeit still...

It's a tad disappointing though, equal interest in all fields between genders is something I'd like to see.

What mark are you aiming for raw?

So you reckon if I'd gotten, say, 84/120 instead of 78/120, I probably would've gotten 95 exam? DAMMIT ALL TO H3LL

What mark are you aiming for raw?

Very likely, yes. I reckon I got about 78-79/120 for my 4u exam, and I got a 94 exam mark. =/

What mark are you aiming for raw?

^ haha yeah, that's true. In an ideal world a harder paper is better, as it rewards those with actual skill in 4u mathematics. I knew I had my 3u down rather well (along with a few thousand others), but I chose to focus drastically less on 4u as a tactical manoeuvre, given it scaled so well...

What mark are you aiming for raw?

... and the difficulty of the test.

What mark are you aiming for raw?

Dude it depends on the difficulty of the test. I was preparing for a 105-110 raw after being exposed to the 2009 4u test. What we got was very different.
