If the violin comes with a case, rosin, strings, bow etc, then $395 isnt all that bad for a student violin. And yeah, instruments don't really go on sale unless the store is like closing down. On the other hand though, you should be able to negotiate a price.

It's only a content endorsed course. So you have to find somewhere that offers it, or you can't do it (I can't recall anywhere that does it). There's not much point of doing it outside of school if your school doesnt offer it because it's only a one year course. Changing schools in one option :)

No, I acquired it through a family friend who requested that I play it as he can no longer play the violin.

I prefer the sound of the violin :) And this is jsut me but beginner/intermediate pieces on the piano don't realy interest me whereas there are a few on the violin which do haha Actually, I prefer the sound of a raw cello over violin.

Teacher is necessary, especially for the beginning stages of your violin learning. Also, because you already know all the notes, rhythm etc, it should be easier to progress to a level where you will be able to self teach yourself. Looking at a book will not teach you how to correctly...

do those scholarships last for the six years?

nahh..this all comes out of subject selection guide my school gives out =] and as for the typing..im just trying to touch type at speed..which obviously isnt going very well :)
