    Law through fiction and non-fiction

Prior to transferring to law, I actually always thought law was a dry and boring discipline. Then I had a taste of the actual subject matter when I did a business law subject in contract law. It was only then that I become thoroughly enamoured with it and decided that this was the field for me.

    BCom/LLB - Career paths & popularity

I'm not sure what you mean by "things like commerce". In terms of each university's strengths reputation-wise, both are great universities but the following may be said: USyd has a slight edge in law. UNSW has a slight edge in Commerce. USyd is generally regarded as superior in the Arts &...

    BCom/LLB - Career paths & popularity

Re: BComm/LLB Congrats, the University of Melbourne is a good uni Their law building is fairly recent too, I think. They appear to have a highly sophisticated moot court :P 2007 will be my 5th and final year.

    BCom/LLB - Career paths & popularity

Re: BComm/LLB Because it gives you incredibly extensive career prospects. Most careers obviously involve business to some extent, and a BCom gives you an excellent foundation in business and commerce. Likewise, law is relevant to pretty much every aspect of human activity and is very attractive...

    Exam Results - Implications

There's always next summer! :) It's the same financial arrangements as for the rest of your degree subjects. So yes, CSP (what used to be HECS). Yes it is possible - I know two people in my ACL class who are doing two summer subjects. I wouldn't really recommend it if you want a decent break...

    Exam Results - Implications

I am doing ACL at UNSW right now, over the Summer. It is purely substantive. You basically go over selected areas in greater depth and detail than covered in Contracts 1 and Contracts 2. The list of topics: - Contingent conditions - Dependency of promises - Breach of condition - Fundamental...

    Exam Results - Implications

Yes, torts can arise in contract, business and even IP - the tort of passing off for example.

Doing honours at a different uni

Sorry I hit the post button prematurely -- I think in the old days a Masters of Law could qualify you for practice

Doing honours at a different uni

This is indeed the reason: An example is Justice Gummow of the High Court. His Honour has a BA and LLM, but no LLB.

Help please with uni preferences! (UTS ur UNSW for Business/Commerce with Cadetship)

Re: Help please with uni preferences! (UTS ur UNSW for Business/Commerce with Cadetsh Without saying anything about the quality of the courses, one thing I would note is that you should not change purely because UNSW has a higher UAI cut-off. Don't feel that you are somehow "wasting" your UAI.

University for finance, commerce and law?

USyd has a slight edge over UNSW in prestige when it comes to law. UNSW is widely regarded as the best for Commerce. However, you really can't go wrong with either. Both are excellent universities (and I have studied at each). That said, being a current student at UNSW I would point out that...

Doing honours at a different uni

Well actually, you write both in your qualifications, so you write "LLB LLM". And in Australia, an LLD is actually an Honourary degree. You don't obtain it by going to university. A doctorate in laws either takes the form of an SJD (Doctor of Juridical Science) or a PhD.

An alternative choice - UWS Law

I'm not aware of any law student on these forums from the University of Melbourne. Virtually everyone here is from NSW. Melbourne Uni is a good law school however.

An alternative choice - UWS Law

I changed it for clarity. It now reflects the purpose of the post and clearly indicates its specificity to UWS.

Doing honours at a different uni

I am not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting that you would start at UOW, then transfer to USyd or UNSW to complete the rest of your degree, where you would seek to do Honours?

    Late round offers

To my knowledge there is no-one on this forum who is a law student at UQ. The rest of your question is not law-related, it pertains more to the UAC's rounds and your chances of success, which is why I am moving your post to the General University area.

    pharmacy vs law

The Law Guide has some information you may find useful, in particular about whether you should study law. As for UTS being more "hands on" than UNSW, that approbation does not relate to the general teaching method in any comparison with UTS and UNSW. Rather, when people say UTS is more "hands...
