    Four law subjects per semester

Re: doing 4 law subjects per semester I think you're right on both points. You'll probably have developed your legal skills somewhat more should you just continue doing 2 law and 2 commerce, but it is not a significant problem since straight LLB students do it. Personally I think it...

Starting law - How to get ahead

A few remarks in response to some of the opinions above. First, the question was not, "Should I get ahead?", but "How can I get ahead?". Second, enjoying the holidays and reading ahead are not mutually exclusive. Third, despite opinions to the contrary, I think that there is advantage in...

    Com/Law or Pharmacy?

Re: Urgent advice needed plz If you are much more interested in becoming a chemist, do Pharmacy. If you are unsure of what career you want, Com/Law will give you the best career prospects. I must say your idea of choosing law as the "next best thing" to, for example, medicine, really disgusts...

Starting law - How to get ahead

The point here is not to get a certain quantity of set readings ticked off. Rather the idea is to introduce some conceptual foundations to a subject which one would otherwise have little knowledge of. The aim is to facilitate the future content of the course by contextual and theoretical...

Starting law - How to get ahead

Having a read of one of the introductory law books while you're sitting by the beach is hardly going to be very demanding. I do very much recommend taking a look :)

    Com/Law or Optometry?

Com/Law will open the doors to an incredibly large variety of job opportunities, whereas Optometry only opens the door to a very limited area. If you are undecided on your future career, I think Com/Law is absolutely the best choice

    Commerce/Law or Optometry?

Um, there is no better degree combination you can possibly do for general business opportunity than Com/Law or Business/Law.

    transferring...

The above is fairly accurate advice. The question is, assuming you have a UAI of 96+, whether you can achieve a distinction average. It is not easy, but if you work hard during first year then it is certainly achievable. For more information on transferring to law, see this section of the Law...

Starting law - How to get ahead

Re: getting ahead Pick up an introductory legal text, such as: Laying Down the Law, by C. Cook; R. Creyke; R. Geddes & Others Understanding the Australian Legal System, by John Carvan and have a read. Also, your university may have first-year texts prescribed or recommended which you could...

    Com/Law or Optometry?

Re: Commerce/Law or Optom? Well the answer really is to be found in the question. What does "better prospects" mean? Because unless you have some specific criteria that we can look at in "better prospects", it would be like comparing applies and oranges: it really depends on what you want to...

    Law textbooks

Yes, they were (and are) our prescribed Contract Law texts. For learning purposes they do the job well. If you want to look at other texts, Cheshire & Fifoot's Law of Contract is also a good book. It is very convenient and can be quite useful, although it is a bit lacking in a few areas, such...

    Law textbooks

Yes and yes... Don't buy recommended texts unless (a) you've tried them and know the quality and (b) you can't get by without borrowing them from the library. I can also vouch for Lawbooks.com.au -- cheap and convenient.

corporate law - without doing commerce?

You can't major in taxation law, either under law or commerce. There is no "taxation law" major in commerce, and you don't do a major in law. You can do tax law subjects under the law faculty. Only law students may enroll in such subjects. The commerce faculty may also offer courses in taxation...
