Carrotsticks' Solutions 2015 Extension 1 HSC

Just wanna thank you for making my day by confirming I'll get an e4<333 85 HSC mark was my goal all year, but 59/70 should equate to well over 90 shouldn't it?

    E4 Raw Mark

Take into account that people who are aiming for 95+ in ext1 will find almost any paper "easy". Hence, I still think e4 cut off will be around the 53/70 raw. Agree or Disagree?

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Extension 1

People saying 58 raw will be B6 cut off are way off. You need to remember the majority of the cohort aren't getting these high marks. The cut off is usually between 48-52/70 and this year will be no different.

Dw guys you are right I think I've just got this all mixed up

The only reason I'm thinking this may be wrong is by looking at it logically - if 25mL of 0.1mol citric (weak) acid needed 41.5mL of NaOH (strong), it would make sense that the NaOH would be more dilute than this acid? Correct me if Im wrong here

splendid haha, went from people telling me I was wrong because of something to do with ACETIC acid to now hopefully being right - bumps my short answers up by 2 marks which is always nice

What did people get for that question? I definitely used citric, and 0.060 mol/L rings a bell for some reason. Anyone want to confirm/disagree?

The answer to the polymer MC was D, 100% it was.

    The entire chemistry exam

    cheers

    Average Mark

I thought the exam was harder than last year's. So im gonna say lower by 3-4 marks.

    Multiple Choice

Hahaha I think its a case of none were really accurate, just a case of which was "more correct". Its hard, I was split because 5 NTU is fairly clear, but 400 NTU is like looking through milk its that cloudy. I'm still gonna stick with C being right but hmmmmmm

    Multiple Choice

I had the incomplete combustion as D - dunno if it will be marked wrong because its not balanced? I had the water quality one as C, simply because 400 NTU for turbidity is irrationally high, like that's insane when 20 NTU is considered a high value. Other than that, agree with your choices -...

There were some more obvious issues with the method. They used 200mL acid rather than like 50mL acid to 150mL water, the acid was dilute when it should have been concentrated, they filtered the dissolved fertiliser before adding Barium Chloride which was wrong, they added the Barium Chloride...

Use the graph for temp + pressure, I did a lot on them and Le Chatelier's principle considerations and the "compromise" and I added stuff about the catalyst.

I said same pond. Simply because repeating the experiment of the same site several times increases reliability. Repeating from a different pond is a whole new set of data.

    Band 6 Cut Off

The graph asked for a line graph, I wouldn't have used a line of best fit simply because the dots were too far apart for the line to realistically represent the data.

    Band 6 Cut Off

This years paper was definitely harder than last years

    Band 6 Cut Off

2011 was a fairly difficult paper, hence I think high 70's this time around will get you there

    Band 6 Cut Off

Predictions for Band 6 Cut off? Looking at previous years, I thought this years paper was definitely harder than 2014, but probably not as easy as ones prior to that. I'm gonna say 78-79ish raw for a band 6?
