Your discourse dictates how your morality and ethics come about. Your context is governed by your social conditioning.

Please see that these "global" standards are Western and Eurocentric.

yes but the moral standards have a direct influence on the laws.
whoever made those laws would have taken into mind their particular moral standards, ethical standards when drafting them. so are they right, to the exclusion of others?
yes, not everyone can be happy.

But I tend to think for the world to operate efficently people who are in the minorty should fall in line, in a social sence anyway.

and yes I've been criticised for this view, but i'm not sure how else thing would work well.

I guess I'm thinking of the world as a machine....

hmm so as long as the rich westerners are happy everything is all good...:/ it's your opinion, you're allowed to have it...no one agrees with me either :( I got shot down just then in Pols...
I don't think it's that they don't want to fall into line. when countries are what, fifty, seventy, even a hundred years behind industrially, they simply cannot adhere to the moral and ethical standards of for example the G8 nations

Happiness is a social construct, what you perceive as 'happy' is different to someone who has been brought up to be 'happy' with what they have.

I think the flaw everyone has when trying to apply an overbearing singular blanket idea is that we assume that a single perspective is 'better' than another.

This hierachy is evident in everything we do, the reason why we are not equal is because through the colonial and conquering of lands, and the want of power of those with it, they have set up the status quo, and in doing so implement systems which ensure their survival and keep reproducing this disparity between those with power and privilege and the 'others'

If people fall in line everyone loses happiness. Have you read Brave New World? There's an example of a "truly happy" society. It's as dystopic as anything can get because there is no free view. Everyone has fallen in line.

If we're going to make global standards, then we should stick to them. Invading another soverignty is not on that list of standards. :(

If they do commit genecide them any military action would be justified, but then this rationality doesn't penetrate as far into the Bush Administration now does it? America is way too trigger happy.
Uday commited his fair share of crime, especially against women.

yes, I know...
I guess you can't engineer society in the way you make machines....

But then, why does democracy work? Isn't the whole idea of that to give everyone a say so that policy decisions can be made to benefit the majority? Where the people who disagree have to just live with it and fall in line?

Whether or not democracy works is very subjective. I think it works, but not others. Otherwise we wouldn't have the "Socialist Alliance." *snicker*
