I remebered that, but they didn't ask me for that in my exam. THEY ASKED FOR THE FUCKING MEAN VALUE THEOREM WHICH I FORGOT. DIL DIL FUCK.
Hahahaa.. they asked us for the Mean Value theorem aswell. Glad I remembered that one.. but I can't believe I didn't see the IVT ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Dr Armour,

My name is Nancy. I am a first year undergrad student doing a combined Science/Arts degree, with Japanese as my Arts major. I am a beginner, studying JAPN1000 and JAPN1001 this year.

I have become interested in potentially teaching Japanese at a university level. I was wondering if you would be able to give me more details on this, e.g.

What units of study I should do other than Japanese?

Is a BA sufficient to teach, or would it be a good idea to pursue an MA and/or a PhD?

What different teaching options are available at university level?

What is the availability of employment, especially at UNSW?

Any help you could give, or references to people who could help me, would be appreciated.
dear nancy

teaching japanese at university level is certainly an admirable thing to do, however, it takes quite a committment to achieve.

firstly your japanese has to be pretty good so you would need to achieve at least level 4B japanese language proficiency. i would also suggest at least 3-5 years of residence in japan either studying or some kind of work in a japanese speaking environment where you read lots of japanese materials.

to teach at any australian university full time you need need a MA in japanese applied linguistics but preferably a PhD. At uni. you are theoretically required to teach at any level.

while an undergraduate you should also study japn2500 and other studies focussed courses as well as japn3300 and japn3301.

sounds daunting well yes it is. that's what i have had to do to get where i am.

regards
Dr. William Armour
