no. if you worked it out over 60 games it would work out like this:
ii) 3/5x60=36
36x4= 144

1/5x60=12
12x$0= 0

1/5x60=12
12x (-8)= -96

144-96=$40

Then you do the same for iii and its $8 less... thats if the question is asking for all of the 60games.. but if its just the one game. then im wrong. but its hard to tell but the question

ahh i see what your getting at now.

im not sure, ive never seen a question worked out like that on financial expectation, but it seems to be logical.

in my view a financial expectation is the expectation of ONE game. but i cant seem to find a definition anywhere in my books, so im probably wrong

yeh that actual hsc mark, i dont believe they can do that.. my maths teacher told me if my marks were in the mid 90s that they would stay that way. so im guna believe him for my own sanity :)
umm i thats odd.. would anyone back up his theory?

lets say i score average 70% in my assignment and 50% in my trials and then got 93% in the HSC exam.
Those that mean my mark would stay at 93%? or would it be add together with all the other mark then average it??

sorry i should have specified.

he meant the mid 90's all year. assessment mark was 95 i think. so yeah, its not just one good exam can be a quick fix to an average year.

brooke - lol, yeah on that note im guna go to bed :) ill make up for my lack of celebration this weekend! i applied to UTS (kuringai) , Macquarie, UWS and Canberra :) in ranked order.
goodnight and goodluck with the rest of your exams and uni!

my answer is as follows.

there is a 3/5 (0.6) chance of winning $4,
so 0.6 X $4 = $2.40

there is a 1/5 (0.2) chance of winning $0,
so 0.2 X $0 = $0

there is a 1/5 (0.2) chance of losing $8,
so 0.2 X -8 = -$1.60

Now add them up, 2.40 + 0 - 1.60 = $0.80

Then you times the financial expectation ($0.80) by the amount of times (60) and you get = $48

(I think)

I see what you're doing..

But the question asks for the financial expectation of the game. If it asked for the financial expectation of 60 attempts at the game, then your answer would be right - but the financial expectation of the game itself is $0.80

what about low 90s whats that get aligned to normally?

100% in general maths gets scaled down to 88 or 89 afaik :(
Nooooooo! u can still get a UAI of 100 doing general!!!! If u do well in any subject, it doesnt matter!! It only effects the people who only go average. A chick at my school did general and got a UAI of 98! Your HSC exam mark NEVER gets changed.... u keep that. The ONLY thing that gets changed is your school assessment. and im 100% sure on that.... they cant change ur exam mark from 95 to 89 cuz lots of ppl did good
