lol to think there would be a top or big 5 would be a bit silly...considering there are only 4 CL spots...

there is always a team aside from the usual 4 that show good early form...but the table always finds a way of sorting itself

Soon there will be only 3 CL spots for English clubs (according to UEFA). By your logic, the 'top 4' should now only consist of 3 teams. But as we know it now, there is no such thing as a top 3 because in theory each of the top 4 are equally good.

I agree the same can't be said for a 5th placed team at the moment, but over time if this team constantly challenges the big 4 and is consistently in the top 5 over time, then we may well see the formation of a big 5.

yeah, see what you mean...

I dont see the formation of a top 5 anytime soon...a team would need to win or get close to winning a premiership to challenge for a top 4 position which in doing so would win them a CL spot

....but people wont settle for a top5 just coz they pulled it off during one lucky season....instead they would need to do it over consecutive seasons, and what will happen is the team that misses out on the CL spot and perceived to be the weakest would now be replaced by the emerging team in the top 4.....if that all makes sense

but to get back to the origin of this discussion "How good are Villa?"

They are the best of the rest, however, they probably wont win a premiership anytime soon and probably wont get a CL spot this season....Agbonlahor and Carew are good but they wont fire you into CL...not if you compare to wat the top 4 have to score their goals

The new (proposed) system is quite good actually. Its not that only three teams go through in the league- but that the 4th has to go through various qualifying matches with top teams from other countries
