LOVE how it is shot and the whole feel of it.

but the plot is fucking stupid as shit and there is no point in it.

the shock scenes are done well.

extremely strange movie though.

you'll walk out and just be lyke '....wtf'

a few people walked out of the cinema after the 'scene that you've probably heard about'

lollers.

Late response. I saw it on the day of release.

You pretty much nailed what I thought of it. I discussed it with friends afterwards and made some sense of it, but it still seemed rather thin. Definitely enjoyable to watch and appreciate though, and not as shocking as I expected.

I saw and fucking loved it. God it was intriguing. All the imagery and occult/nature symbolism, I'm still thinking about it and I saw it at least a month ago now. The words were so powerful in it...

"Nature is Satan's Church."

"Chaos regins."

I practicularly like the end scene where he burns her body, it's as if confirming that women are evil in that they are inherantly connected with nature.

One thing I didn't understand fully (mostly out of the movie:p), was when he finds her research journals and it reads ont he cover "Gynocide". Women aren't a race, or does anyone think they are trying to say that women are? OR that the witches were a race of their own?

Although I noticed that the "three begars" relate directly to the 15th century Occult story "The Golden Arse". The familars of witches, birds, deer, and foxes/dogs. The 'Three Begars" is also a poem by Yeats and has some references that work into the movie, so possible inspiration could have been taken from there.

OH! What was up with her putting the kids shoes on the wrong feet, firstly other than to establish her growing insanity, I thought that any symbols inversed are occult or Satanic symbols. Also the scream of the kid and the kid wasn't screaming.

I have a feeling that the kid might have been Satan or one of the Three Begars...

God so much more, but I won't go on.

Please dicuss with me! I absolutely adored this movie, can't wait to buy it on DVD!

the main guy dies in the end

sorry to spoil it for u guys
When did that happen? I think it might have been inferred, but I dunno. I mean the hillside of women was fairly omnious, but I think it was describing that he cannot escape women or his fear of them now...

I have no interpretation to offer, but I'm going to say that for some reason systematically putting the wrong shoes on the child's feet struck me as more fucked up than the torture she inflicted on her husband.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to L again.

Dude, what the hell?! Put that in spoiler tags! [ spoiler ]ruined ending[ /spoiler ]

I am very very keen to see it but I do not really have a lot of tolerance for von trier films Dancer in the Dark made me so incredibly depressed in a way different to any other movie I had ever seen - I wanted to break the world in half and go die in a corner or something - I didn't see Breaking the Waves because I think it would probably make me feel worse.

I do want to see Antichrist though, I'm just a bit of a wuss and find even the trailer terrifying

Von Trier is a fucking child!!! the first few scenes are absolutely beautiful, serene monochrome photogrpahy acompanied by what i think is a Handel Aria, then all of a sudden it goes into 10 seconds of hardcore porn clips. he is just so excessive, he has no understanding of self control. i don't give a fuck that he had depression. the references to god and satan lack any subtlelty or tact. and the fucking deer with a foal hanging out and the talking fox!?!?!?! it's fucking stupid. the symbolism is just too 2 dimensional and transparent. i give kudos to Dafoe and Gainsbourg for entering so willingly into such brave roles.

Von Trier should go back into rehab, what started as a lovely beautiful perfume ad ended as a SAW sequel
