I recently installed 1 gig of ram into my home computer (XP3000+, SATA raid 0 80gig x2)

but when using the eMacs at uni (1.25Ghz G4, 1gig ram), they just feel so much faster. everything opens instantly and loads fast, the computer never pauses.

it's not fair :(

is this true? it seems too hard to believe.

doubt it, they were once a major competitor to IBM and PC in the 80's but thats not Mac Ltd's focus is anymore

Nice to see you flogging of your conceptually flawed opinion which happens to be based on a stupid common misconception. :p

I'm going to get a Mac eventually. One mac + one slackware & windows dual boot sounds nice.

it is in FACT based on my past experiences not my apparently "stupid misconception"

is there a problem with me expressing my own opinion slide rule?

but you know ;) whatever floats my boat aye slide rule?
There's a diffence between giving your opinion and reinforcing a stereotype. The former is (hopefully) passively biased, while the latter is actively biased and if the stereotype is wrong, then it's also detrimental.

But yeah I apologise. I thought you were just jumping on the Apple bashing bandwagon.

If you've studied Mac and PC computer architecture, you'll know why one loads faster.

but i haven't :(

please enlighten.
lol, i haven't either. But I've heard that the way Mac's are designed, they perform a lot faster between all your computing components.

I heard this back in 2000. A LOT has changed since them i'm assuming.

ive always wondered why they dont use faster processes etc even tho they are designed differently dosent this just mean they could be using the same sorta hardware levels / speeds but acheveing more with it?

murf
well, the G5's will be getting to 2.7Ghz soon, that's not slow by any stretch of imagination, just expensive

I've typed documents up at uni and haven't noticed any lag.

How much ram do you have?

EDIT: well... i don't have decent touch type rate :p
emacs over adsl is no lag for me either.

i guess i don't type fast enough
