I wouldn't if I were you. I did that in one of my essays for "Shoe-Horn Sonata"... which would be "SHS", and the cow put big, bold, bright, red X's through every single one of them... pissed me off soo bad because other's in advanced did it and got away with it. *shakes fist*

And I made sure that I wrote-"Shoe-Horn Sonata ("SHS")..." as well.... :mad: that damn teacher is so friggen biased, it drives me nuts!

one of the teachers at our school who is a hsc marker said its ok to use them if you first state what they are. so if your saying rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead you would first use it in full then in brackets say (henceforth known as RAGAD)... thats what i plan to do

how much time do you actually save by abbreviating everything? really, it's not THAT big a deal.
Yes it is. :p

eg.

X=exports
I= imports
o=output
N=labour
D=demand
S=supply/savings
Y=income
E=expenditure
G.L.E.A=general level of economic activity
K=capital
a/c=account
BAL=balance
CAD=current account defecit/Computer aided design
UE=unemployment
NAIRU=natural rate
I=inflation
WPR=workforce particapation rate

For an economics essay. :p

Generally, everything should be written in full at least once beforehand. :)

i always write '&'.... noones ever said anything bout that before. and like most ppl have established, its fine to use acronyms once you have written what they stand for.

my teacher said you can do abbreviations as long as you write 'heneforth' in brackets eg. 'Ten Things I Hate About You' (henceforth 'TTIHAY')

I write & as well, especially nearer to the end of the exam when the time is running out.

i always abbreviate for mod a and mod b, don't think i have for mod c though. but this is straight from my mum's mouth :

it is a-ok as long as you do the brave new world (bnw) type thing.

my mum is an english teacher for those not in the know. and i went and checked her exemplars book and plenty of them do the same thing. the markers know you're trying to write shitloads in not much time, they *won't* think you're lazy
