I put in some random numbers into this atar estimate thing cause I was curious lol - was just wondering what does atar equivalent mean? (last column)

Also how is a band 6 in maths ext 2 considered 68.1 percentile

i think atar equivalent is the contribution it makes to your atar meaning ext 2 will eventually contribute a lot to your atar giving you a 99.7 (idk if ykwim)
a band 6 is maths ext 2 is scaled no one is ever able to get a raw band 6 so a 68.1 percentile is scaled to 92 which is equivalent to a 90 hsc mark

The Talent 100 ATAR calculator does not seem to work as well as it used to a few years ago around when I completed my HSC. This would explain the low percentile figures for Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2. However, as I was typing this, I realised that this is explained by the large number of students who achieve a band E4 in these subjects. Consider 2024 enrolment figures for both Mathematics Extension 1 and Mathematics Extension 2:

As you can see, the number of band E4's in both subjects constitute around a third of total enrolments. As such, it would make sense to be in the high 60s percentile if a student achieves a 90, since students who achieve 91 and above would be in higher percentiles. In other words, they are technically at the bottom of that third who achieved a band E4.

With that being said, while it does not provide as much information as the Talent 100 ATAR calculator does, I would recommend using UAC's ATAR Compass. Since it is made by UAC themselves, it is likely to be more accurate.

Regarding the ATAR equivalent, my understanding is that it simply means the ATAR that a student with a particular result in a particular subject typically achieves.
