BIOS1201 - How did you Study?! (1 Viewer)

Hi hi,

For those who have done BIOS1201 before, I am just wondering how and what method did you use to study for this course?? Because I am having some difficulties in deciding how (and how much) I should study for this subject

I went to the lectures and read all the reference chapters but I realize that the stuff I read from the textbook don't really match the stuff that the lecturer teaches #_# There are a LOT more to remember when reading the textbook than what the lecturer says!! >.<

Do I need to remember ALL the stuff we read from the textbook? Or do I just concentrate on the points that the lecturer says, extend a bit by myself with the aid of the textbook, and do the tutorials?? Because I am having HUGH difficulty in remembering everything from the textbook @.@

yeah there's a lot to remember

if you remember the details, you'll score very high
but if you know the basics then you'll do fine and get credits

university is not about memorising textbooks. You need to just study the lecture and complement what you have learned int he lecture with a textbook. Use the textbook for clarification. A lot of the lecturers you have are also researchers and will have a different perspective from what is being written int he textbook. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect your lectures to be exactly the same as the textbook.

Study the tut as well. Materials from there will be in the final exam.

Bios 1201 is the most horribly boring course I've ever done. The prac seemed fun last week, but the lectures are horrible. Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi, Prokaryotes! Oh the joy!

Anyway, as for me, all I've been doing so far is reading through the text book after every lecture and sticking bookmarks in where the important stuff is so I can look back on it later. Hopefully it'll work...

Lol, Basically I just re-do the ilecture of Biology & read the textbook then if I have time, summarize + bibliograpy for that summary

. It isn't so bad, lol I never did bio in HSC, but in a way it's quite interesting...ahh the world of microbiology coming my way...

[Ok, offtopic abit] Anyways, gosh I gotta agree with Survivor my Chem1031 demonstrator was soo vague in giving instructions to us all...as though like she expected us to already know how to use a spectrometer, etc...[I mean, I know that there are notes in our lab manual teaching us how to use it, but the demonstrator should advise us clearly in practice + calculations. I mean, almost every person I met in the Gibson Lab asked me about the differing Cu Concs]

I find the best way to get marks is to revise the lecture, then read & summarise the relevant chapters of the textbook, even if the textbook goes into more detail, or from a different perspective, it really helps with understanding. But then again, I'm not as qualified as survivor39 to give tips on studying for BIOS1201.

for the library tutorial pretest, does it matter if we get 15 or 10 or 18/18? Or do we just have to do it....

ah sikevo i just think you have to attempt it... the post-quiz is the important one to worry about... its fairly easy to score high marks in

Actually, you only need 60% in the post quiz to get the full 2 marks. Plus you can try it unlimited times!

Hmm, sorry are you referring to the Library Pre-test [the one where you need to complete first before commencing the BIOS library skills]?

Or, the final test after you've completed the BIOS tutorial?

Cos, um in our BIOS tut Library section, the librarian said, you don't need to worry about the post-quiz, it's only a survey to see how much you know before commencing the tutorial..

bump again. Margaret Cooley says that if you read the lecture notes and do the readings you will pass. However for higher marks you need additional readings? How necessary is this?

Also, she said that some lab marks will be adjusted according to your exam mark to account for differences in marking between lab demonstrators. Does this happen? (so theoretically, my marks can go down?)

Bios eh, as long as I pass I'm happy. Looking at the answers (and the subsequent discussion) with that mock test last week doesn't make me think that many are prepared yet...that's good, because neither am I.
