ATTENTION - We have hit our registration cap! Any new registrations will now be placed on reserve list. If you are no longer able to attend, please let me know ASAP so we can free up spots for those on the reserve list.

Tired of doing the same generic practice questions and want to level up your HSC preparation?

Want to do a practice paper under simulated exam conditions in preparation for your HSC?

Know anyone at school who is good at HSC Maths?

It is that time of year again! This year, Bored of Studies will be holding trial exams for:
Mathematics Extension 1
Mathematics Extension 2

Aimed at students seeking a stimulating and interesting paper (i.e. with less of the boring/repetitive easy stuff), these exams will test the limits on how well you really know your stuff, whilst within the bounds of the HSC syllabus.

These exams will sharpen your skills for those tougher questions in the actual HSC exam. This will also be one of your last chances to practice a full exam as close to HSC exam conditions as possible.

SPONSORSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT - IMC Trading
This year, we are proud to announce that the BoS trials will be sponsored by IMC Trading!

IMC is a global trading firm supported by cutting edge quantitative models and world-class technology. They are known to hire employees who are strong at Maths (i.e. quants), have a fast dynamic work environment, and yes, have an enviable six figure salary for graduate employees straight out of uni!

IMC typically recruit university students through the below programs:
Doing the BoS trials will get you noticed (particularly if you get a decent rank in it) should you put it on your CV and apply to IMC in a future program such as LaunchPad in your first year of uni. If you want to boost your future application prospects in quant trading whilst leveling up your HSC prep at the same time, you will definitely want to take part in the BoS Trials event!

You can use it to track your results when I put the marks online. You are only registered when I have replied with your student number. Please be patient as it takes time for me to get through all the registrations.

PAST EXAMS
For our flagship Maths exams, we have past papers since 2012 to give you an idea of what to expect (yes...we have been doing this for 13+ years! :jump:). Keep in the mind that whilst the new syllabus was in place since 2020, most of the questions in those past papers are still relevant to the current syllabus.

We also have past papers for the following subjects that we held trial exams for previously. We can only do this as long as there are people who are prepared to make it happen. Unfortunately, for these subjects we have been unable to find enough people available to continue writing and marking the papers:
  • Mathematics Advanced
  • Chemistry - note that official solutions were not written for the 2021 paper
  • Physics
  • Business Studies
Feel free to use them as preparation for this year's paper or just practice in general.

Business Studies (2023-2024 only)

To those who are planning to do this year's BoS trials, I look forward to seeing you there! :)

Why dont you guys do advanced?
depends on the number of people willing to mark. Unfortunately not many people want to mark adv. Which I frankly agree with since the subject is plain to heavy lmao. Not much variation, but subtle things are used in criteria. Often a pain to mark.

and can't really make an advanced paper interesting without stepping into extension 1 territory

Edited. Actually you won't need to dial on the intercom. The doors should be open and just take a lift straight to Level 4.

they didn't allow you to take the question booklet home?

also these questions can and will be asked in the hsc for future years, just not 2025. it pisses me off that nesa steals questions from boredofstudies, giving those who memorised questions from boredofstudies papers an advantage

wait im not even sure anymore, whats the correct interpretation? is the force acting with or against the motion?? (q2 of mx2)
It's acting with the motion. If it was acting against the motion, the wording would ordinarily call it a resistance force and the object would be decelerating. It was also kind of implied in the question that the force caused the object to accelerate in the positive direction and we now want to make it accelerate even more.

Question has now been reworded to make that clearer.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the BoS Trial exams this year! :)

Hope you found those papers interesting, useful and challenging.

Apologies to those we ultimately could not accommodate due to the registration cap.

In terms of marking and official solutions, we are aiming to get those out a few days before the respective HSC exam for that subject (so naturally Maths Ext 2 is being prioritised first). Please be patient as this will take time to get through and write up.

If you want to know any unofficial answers to any specific questions right now before the solutions are released, just ask the question in this thread. Feel free to also share thoughts on the papers.

....and now please find the papers attached!
