i'll happily describe it

this. i had my interview today, got a call at around 4 30
I got an ey offer yesteday as well!
At like 3pm when i was still on the bus home. So stoked :)

But yeah, it was the guy who interviewed me who called me, in a 'just letting you know' kind of way.
So @Deathless, MAYBE you'll get informed later, but i heard of several other people who had interviews yday who got offers within 2 hours
*Edit: After reading through the rest of the thread, I hope you don't get an offer, cos you have a serious attitude/personality problem

Hey seremify,

I've decided not to apply for any cadetships. Main reason being that I don't feel I'm that motivated enough to do it to be honest and I'd sort of like to relax/socialise more during uni (hope I don't sound lazy here).

However, I do not want to totally slack off during uni and still hope to improve my career prospects in some way. I know I should get good grades/do extra-curriculurs, etc. but I've also heard about summer vacation programs. Can you explain what these are and if they are any good?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I was just wondering is it beneficial to get an accounting cadetship if I am considering majoring in finance because I want to enter the banking industry.
But I'm really keen to gain some work experience, while studying and also getting paid!

Also do the firms let you do a double major?

Is KPMG harder to get into than EY? How many cadetship positions do each have??

Any words of wisdom from anyone about either question is really appreciated.

What do you mean by harder to get into? As in, the selection process?
Cos i know that KPMG had 5/6 interview days as opposed to ey's 3.
Their selection processes also differ quite a bit.

No idea about the number of positions offered.
But from the ey interview day i went to (yesterday), i heard of a lot of people who got offers, so i don't think its that hard.

Sorry, i don't know if that answers your question =s

I would say EY is much harder to get into,

they had a lot more applicants this year,
+ they offer fewer positions than kpmg (as ive been told)

ive been to both AC's, and i'd say EY was a little harder, just because they had a group interview (less in your control), where as KPMG had 2 1-1 interviews.

nah majority dont let you do a double major.. because it is a full time job with 4.5 days a week and 4.5 hours for uni
Incorrect.

Majority do a double major I'd say (myself included) and this was back when it was the 4.5 days a week and 4 hours off per uni. Now that a lot of the big firms offer 7.5 hours off per week and hence only require people to work 4 days a week during semester, I'd say even more people would be pushing the limits (e.g. overloading).

Tip for the guys going through the process at the mo', don't think too hard about your odds or chances of getting in. I am 99% confident that it is NOT possible for you to accurately gauge this because you won't really know how many applications there were, how many have been culled, how many interview days for each division are on offer (also note that if someone couldn't make it they may go to an interview for a different division but still be considered for their original preference), etc...

I also wouldn't think too deeply into the easier vs. harder between firms. Realistically it'll come down to the people interviewing you. Whilst each firm presumably has their own way of 'normalising' the scores and recruitment process to ensure it's fair, at the end of the day it's the Partners who ultimately give the yes or no call.

Do you know how many places, or are you talking about a particular division? Thanks.

Can anyone estimate how many places they would have for assurance in Sydney? :D
