My question is, if you get low 80's for your internal assessment mark (or even high 70's) does that mean even if you get high 90's for your examination mark, realistically, you can't get an over 90 overall mark?

does school rank affect this process at all?

Your assessment mark will be moderated so a raw mark of low 80s or high 70s isn't all that relevant in themselves e.g. a mark of low 80s but a cohort rank of 1st and an exam mark of 90 would see a final mark of 90 but an assessment mark of low 80s for the lowest ranked student in the cohort who then gets an exam mark of 60 will see them get a final mark of 60.

School rank plays no part in this as any school rank you have seen was based oni previous years' cohort. Schools will be re-ranked by some agents after this year have done the HSC - and any rankings are rather limited anyway given the very limited results made publicly available.

Yes.

If you get 80 as a school mark, you need a 100 exam mark to get 90.
