Definitely, a few of my friends who didn't do Chemistry in high school managed to get a distinctions in CHEM1031 (Higher Chem) and CHEM1011. As long as you keep up with the tutorial sets, do all of your weekly computer quizzes and understand the content taught, you should be able to do well.

l know heaps of people that passed chem1011 without doing chemistry in school. pay extra attention to the first two tutorial problem sets because you can't do the course without knowing how to name compounds, balance equations etc. although you might find the labs a bit difficult, a lot of the time the lecturer falls behind and we're required to complete the labs having no knowledge on the topic, luckily most of them are not worth any marks. my advice is that you take a look at the lab exercises beforehand and learn any of the content that you don't know.

Yup. I took CHEM1011 last semester with no chemistry background at all. I managed to pass it, although a bit off from a credit. (worst subject for the sem =_=')

As people said above, work hard on the first two sets, and make sure you know what's happening in the labs (because I surely didn't). Also if you can get a hold of past papers for finals, try and do so especially considering that the finals are harder than the practice papers (due to the questions in the MC they put in)

Yeah, the MC questions were harder than the actual written questions.
