Based on your feedback, selected services travelling between Central and Newcastle stations will have quiet carriages from 13 February until 13 May 2012.
[h=2]What are quiet carriages?[/h]
Quiet carriages are those where passengers are asked to respect the peace and quiet by refraining from loud conversations, using mobile phones or playing loud music, providing a better train journey for everyone.
What do you guys think?

What the fuck?

Will they have loud carriages on the same train and separate loud and quiet people?

Between Central and Newcastle? There's only like one person I can think of who'd make such a journey... and that's not me.

Won't work. Until they realise this, you can avoid the quiet carriages.

haha it's pretty much everyone in my town who is going to uni and not living away from home

Quiet carriages are customer regulated. There are no penalties or consequences for not being quiet in a quiet carriage, but we encourage everyone to respect the peace and quiet and not to disturb other passengers.
then what even is the point?

Could work in countries like Sweden, but we're very selfish in this country. Absolutely no chance this will work.

Doesn't work. I was on one the other day and there was a bunch of noisy primary school students on an excursion and teachers did nothing.:argue:

If I were an idealist I would suspect that people who wish to travel in a quiet environment would all travel in the quiet carriage, so it will only contain like-minded people and thus it is self enforced.

However I am not an idealist and I doubt this will be the case.

Ever since these came in effect I've noticed a difference. Every time someone is talking, another passenger has told them to stfu
