It's that time of year again

the time when i bombard you all with shameless advertising disguised as a thread. But in the intrests of obeying site rules of discussion, we could always turn this into a general clubs and socs thread..

anyway more to the point, MADSOC (movement and dance society) as funded by the cultural arts network are holding and end of semester bbq/performance/partay on the 28th of October! This event is in collaboration with hip hop soc, capoeira and suSalsa, but of course, we are doing the organising, so we are taking the credit! If you have missed madsoc's marvelous performances, now is the time to catch up on what we've been up to.

The event will be held in Manning Bar, from 6:00 pm, and its a great way to celebrate the end of year, before exam reality sets in.

-There will be a FREE!!!!!! bbq on the manning balcony from 6pm
- From 7pm we are having another one of our famous performances, featuring the magical madsoc review, performed by The Company (including my humble self)
-From 8pm we are having another dance-off, so practice your moves
-there will also be a DJ
- AND YES, THERE WILL BE A REVIVAL OF THE WHORE DANCE!

but most importantly, you can WIN FREE DRINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so thats the end of my shameless self promotion... now its your turn. ANyody a member of any particular society thats had any good events recently?

Also while we're on advertising C&S, anyone who wishes to have a right-leaning article written by them published can contact me, because we're trying to bring back the Libertas magazine for next year, and the problem this year was a lack of articles.

Volunteering in the summer break

Hey guys,

Many of you may consider the holidays as a prime opportunity to get more involved with your local community, given the absence of our beloved exams & study-related stress.

If any of you are interested in doing some volunteer work during these holidays, the St Vincent de Paul Society on campus (USyd Young Vinnies Conference) is organising some group volunteering activities.

If you're interested, check out the website at http://usydyoungvinnies.cjb.cc or contact us at usyd_youngvinnies@hotmail.com

Cheers,
Alex.

how much does the volunteer work pay?
Can't provide you with an exact figure, but it's certainly lucrative. We pay you in hugs :D.

OMFG that definitely made my day LOL!!!!

yeh, volunteering work rocks... unfortunately, holi's coming to an end... but can't help put some advertisement on:

If any of you wish to help out local disadvantaged school students achieving better marks, pay a visit to the STP (School Tutoring Programme) stand at o-week. In short, you donate 1 hr per week helping students from community schools with their academics. Since it's voluntary, you will not be paid, but you will get grateful "thank you"'s, also a bbq at the end of the year.

If you won't have time to visit them during the O-week, pop in to STP office any time when it's attended. It's situated on lvl4 Wentworth building. Staff there are all very helpful and passionate about helping you helping kids out. They will also have other volunteering programmes' information. Just ask them about it!!!

and 2ndly, CHESS CLUB!!!
Definitely the best club ever!!! No matter if you are an expert, novice player, beginner, experienced player, or don't know anything to do with chess, there will be someone who's like you... the chess club have meetings twice a week... to gather to play chess, analyse games, watch games commenting on games... loads of fun...

Tournaments are run regularly, and best of all, it's FREE for USYD chess club members!!! Great prizes to be won as well ...

Or the very least, say hello to xiaoie at chess club stand at o wk?! pretty please?!
