Yeah well, i just listen to the experts, lets see ricky ponting, anil kumble, and the countless channel 9 commentators. oh and past history.
And the selection of tait wasn't bad. It was eith tait or hogg. You obviously don't keep your eye on the ford ranger cup and the pura cup. Hilfenhaus hasn't been taking wickets consistently this season as he did last.

yes i agree with bracken. he is such an underrated bowler its not funny. he is a much better version of johnson and i don't see how the selectors can pick him over bracken, if they are to pick one left-armer. overall, i think our bowling attack has been pretty average over the summer, except for clark with his reliability, and lee in career best form.

there is talk that paki should come to aust for the test series. personally i wouldn't mind that, it has been a while since they last toured here. but spare a thought for the paki cricket fans who genuinely want to see the best team in the world in action.

yer, Johnson looks like he needs to play a bit more first class cricket before he plays test cricket. He rarely swings the ball and barely moves it off the seam. He does hit the pitch hard though.. I think the selectors are picking him in the hope that in the long run he will repay them..

But yer braks for now..

lol are you fucking serious. You are obivously a cricket pr0.

The GABBA pitch suited the indians more than sydney(similar to adelaide), and look they got smashed at the GABBA. but yer you are goign to then blame pre-game practice...

It is an Australian home ground, i doubt that it will suit the Indians MORE than the Australians. Pitches these days don't really play to their traditional ways anyway...
wtf, the indians never played in the Gabba, which is always the summer opener, and the indians were our second guests. It was Sri Lanka

Momentum is probably with India, whoever wins the toss in Adelaide has one step towards victory.

Bracken is a great ODI bowler but I don't know if he's Test-worthy. Obviously he was given a go a couple of summers back but didn't impress that much. I guess selectors are looking at the pace of Johnson to build him up. With awesome NSW quicks in Lee and Clark to take Bracken away would be a travesty for the Blues. Doug Bollinger's not doing too bad either. Johnson will be persevered at for quite some time. He's not as erratic as Tait (who by the way has not won a Test match in his short career)

Ponting needs a big innings here. He has struggled against India home and away. But that being said he now has two bogeys in Harbhajan (who is sure to return) and Ishant Sharma. Also look for a special one for Sachin. Anyone still remember Brian Lara's magical 216 a couple of seasons ago? Should Sachin recreate that, it'll be even more special since the series still is alive techincally.

Australia are scoring far too slowly for a result atm, unless they can destroy the indian 2nd innings.

Gilchrist ends Australia career

Gilchrist has made 96 consecutive Test appearances for Australia

Australia wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.
The 36-year-old will retire from Tests after the current match against India, and will quit one-day internationals at the end of the season.
"It's with great pride that I make the decision to retire," said Gilchrist, who on Friday broke the record for the most Test dismissals by a gloveman.
"I came to this decision after much discussion with those important to me."
Since Australia's 5-0 Ashes whitewash in 2006-7, Australia have lost experienced stars Damien Martyn, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Justin Langer to international retirement and Gilchrist's departure has robbed them of another stellar talent.
Cricket Australia are expected to give 30-year-old Brad Haddin the chance to replace Gilchrist in the side as next wicket-keeper/batsman.
606: DEBATE

If I was to choose an all-time World XI Gilchrist would be in it

ATG

Haddin has played 26 one-day internationals, scoring three fifties at an average of 31, and also played four Twenty20 games, but has yet to feature at Test level.
Gilchrist will go down in history as one of the most destructive batsmen the sport has ever seen, while his skills behind the stumps saw him overtake Mark Boucher's world record for Test dismissals on Friday.
He made his Test debut in 1999, and scored 5,556 runs, took 377 catches and made 37 stumpings in his 96 consecutive appearances.
Gilchrist also holds the record for the highest number of sixes in Test cricket, with a trademark shot over the boundary against Sri Lanka in November 2007 bringing up his 100th.
He won the World Cup with Australia in 1999, 2003 and 2007 in his role as a devastating batsman for Australia's one-day side.

2004 ODI player of the Year
2006 Passes 5,000 Test runs
2007 Third World Cup title
2007 Aussie dismissals record
2008 World dismissals record

In the third Ashes Test at Perth in 2006 he smashed the second-fastest Test century in history, from 57 balls - just one more than Viv Richards in 1986 - hitting three sixes in an over off Monty Panesar.
It was the last of his 17 Test hundreds, and he reached three figures against all nine of Australia's major Test opponents.
His final World Cup innings was also a memorable one, firing 13 fours and eight sixes from 149 from 104 balls in the final against Sri Lanka.
"I thank all my team-mates and support staff who have given me the most enjoyable, fun career anyone could hope for and to the many officials and opponents I have come across," added Gilchrist.
"It has been terrific to play against you and more importantly get to know you."
Gilchrist's former Australia team-mate Michael Slater was one of a string of contemporaries to pay tribute to the popular left-hander.
Gilchrist has been a swashbuckling talent in all forms of the game

"We're all shocked but I think it's a good decision," he said.
"He was a superstar who changed the face of cricket. He has set a standard for keeper/batsmen that I don't think will ever be matched."
Another former Australia opener Justin Langer said Gilchrist was one of the sport's all-time greats.
"He is one of the best players I have ever played with and the best wicket-keeper/batsman who has ever played the game," added Langer.
Cricket Australia chairman Creagh O'Connor said Gilchrist would be remembered as one of the game's gentlemen, with his principled decision to "walk" when he believed he was out earning him the respect of fans all over the world.
"Adam has unquestionably been Australia's finest ever wicket-keeper batsman," he said.
"He has been a great adornment to the game of cricket and his statistics with bat and gloves speak for themselves. "His influence on the game has gone well beyond statistics both in terms of the dignity with which he has played the game and his respect for the traditions and the spirit of cricket."

this is another sad sad chapter in australian cricket. gilly has always been my favourite, not only for his blistering batting and skillful glove work, but also his determination and sportsmanship. not one player in cricket has a bad thing to say about gilly, and it shows in his friendly manner with the opponents.

personally, i'd love for gilly to play to his 100th test match. but i'd rather he leaves in his own terms than having the beaurocrats weaving their axe over him.

we'll miss you gilly.

no, gilly wouldn't bow to pressure that easily. i think it is more of the fact that he didn't want to play anymore, plus he wants to give brad haddin a go. after all, he has achieved all there is to achieve in cricket, risen to a height unmatched by any other wicky-batty in the history of the game, so he feels he has nothing left to prove.

he's a witty character, hope he joins the nine commentators and shares his wisdoms with us.

Gilly's dad used to run a cricket store up in Lismore where I bought all my cricket gear from back in the day. Dunno if he still does. Good bloke. So is Adam himself. He will be missed.

thats no indication that there was any pressure on his retirement. he knows he is not as good as he used to be, and he doesn't feel the need to get back to top form again. even so, the selectors are in no doubt he is still the top wicky in the country, even hilditch (chairman of selectors) said he was shocked by adam's decision. all in all, gilly's retirement was voluntary without any external pressure whatsoever. anyone who thinks otherwise can put forward his case.

What? who said there was any pressure. Gilchrist simply said that after he dropped the catch he didnt feel the desperation to keep his standards up or something similar. nothing about external forces or pressure from others.

Ronchi man, I saw him a KFC 2020 BigBash game the other night and he was pure awesome. Went berzerk, completely destroyed Bollinger along with Shaun Marsh.
