Out of curiosity, how does a relatively poor performance in your first two assessment task (all subjects) affect your atar, especially when you improve dramatically in your marks/ranks during you next assessment task and trials??

Atar is dependent on hsc marks which have a 50% dependence on ur assessment mark which is based purely on your overall rank at the end of the year in that subject rather than the actual marks u got in ur assessments.

hmmm so in other words, i could perform poorly but get a reasonable rank and still get a good atar by performing well in the hsc??

Technically yes, but if you're getting poor marks it usually means u wont have the ability to smash the hsc (unless it was an unfortunate mess up in ur assessment)

It also depends on ur school. Top 500 school u should be looking at a top 3 rank in all ur subjects, top 100 a top 5 rank, top 50 top 10 rank and top 10 anywhere higher than the middle
