Do subjects from the ASB scale or is your raw mark at the end of the year your final mark?

From the courses I've done so far (ECON1101, FINS1613, ACTL1001, ACCT1501) they usually don't scale, or they even scale down.

do they scale down a lot? im worried because im doing just enough to to pass in all my subjects but im worried because the averages for the assessments we have done so far are relatively high (distinctions), that my mark will scale down

TBH I would say there is no scaling what you get is what you get. However, there might be an element of scaling as they dont return our finals to us. This means we have no clue of what our true final mark is and so it could be adjusted or left as it is.

i think ECON1101 scaled down a lot for us in sem 1 2011 since most people were disappointed in their results including me. some of us expected HDs but we pretty much got a mid-distinction. FINS1613 and ACCT1501 slightly scaled down by a few marks, i was expecting marks in the 90s since i got 100% in everything before the finals but i got high 80s (i highly doubt i did THAT badly in my exams). ACTL1001 was pretty ridiculous, not sure about scaling for that because i really screwed that up.

keep in mind, they only scale the top marks if theres too many people getting HD's etc. If you got 50% for everything they (most likely) won't scale you down to a fail.

No one is ever scaled down to a fail. If you get > 50 raw you certainly pass the course.

I'd say they "moderate" to standards. Not scale.

Scale implies, "Let's standardise marks on the basis of difficulty/cohort..." or something like that (I probably worded that wrong, but anyway)

Sure they don't scale you down unless too many of us are getting HD - even then I'm not certain it is common situation.

So basically since I am failing and all I am looking for is to pass.
As long as I get above 50 in raw,I should be fine?

Yes, provided your total marks in the course are > 50 you pass.

If your mark is 46 - 49 it then depends on your WAM as to whether they pass you or not (pretty much they automatically do provided your WAM is > 55 or something like that).
