mature aged students are aged 21+
my friend is like 22, and if he didnt tell me his age, i wouldve thought he graduated from high school last year, ie 18

Usually people get into university at 18, so if they do a single degree they should graduate at 21.

24 is hardly mature

I have a few "older" friends in my course, who are in their late 20's and honestly you don't even notice the age gap at all. It only becomes noticable when you're 50 and trying to fit in with kids in their teens and 20's.

The only thing I don't like about mature age students, I mean the ones who are much older, is that they baby me :/

I think I speak for most people when I say that:

a) Generally speaking, mature age students work a lot harder, read everything, and usually get better marks, but,
b) don't know how to shut up in class.

yes i agree here...i dont have a prob with mature age in general but there are specific ones who just piss me off...they think they own the place and seriously many of them dont really belong there...this may sound harsh but its what i think...but yes they are generally harder workers there for the purpose of the degree not socialising, unlike some recent school leavers....24 isnt old to start i consider mature age ppl that are like 40+...even tho 20's is considered it...i hope this made sense

Agreed. Don't have anything against them in general, just the ones who think they know everything and makes it a point to always answer every question in tutorials and interrupt or add-on to someone else's answer. ;(

Yeah, I have a few "mature age" friends--one who's 22, another who's finished her nursing degree and registration (so must be at least 21 by now), and one who's 24, and another (Asian) who's young enough looking that I was shocked when she said she'd been married for 5 years and working for 8! (so she'd be 30-ish by now). Generally they aren't too bad, and half the mature age students I met are international students who are just that extra bit older and who finished their HSCs the same year as I did.

You should be fine--24 is not old! Mature age brings to mind more sort of--40+

One of my best friends at uni is a mature age student!

She's annoying at times, but generally a very cool person to be around.....

There's lots of mature agers in teaching!! Some are experts at shitting me up the wall and others are really cool I think it depends on the individual person really....

anyone who did math2111 this semester will tell you the mature age student in our class is a top bloke. he's always up for a laugh, makes the class more interesting and to top it off, he's actually pretty smart.

I think the majority of uni/tafes classify mature age students as 25yrs and older.

We've got quite a few mature age students and I have to say they do tend to know a lot more and be able to concentrate on study more than us younger kids. Im going to be 23 when I graduate, even though i went straight from yr 12 to school (wasted 3 yrs on primary education) and I feel old but not compared to others lol.

I admire mature age students, esp those over 30yrs, coz most of them are like single parents, or single income families, who are going back to study to further their careers, and make a difference for their families. And sacrifice heaps! That takes a lot of courage! So well done.

Though we did have one annoying lady who one time came in late and sat next to me and my friend and then in the middle of the lecture, she yells out are you from USA? And the lecturer looks up in suprise going oh yeah i do. And then the lady goes oh well I want to thank you for coming out here and teaching us...blah blah and me and my friend were like OMFG!! Then she moved down the front a bit, and then moved again even further adn we were all like whats she on?! I dont think ive seen her since...hmm
