So you would support the murder of Douglas Wood, thanks, that's all I needed. :)
Killing Iraqi civilians is wrong. Killing coalition forces is wrong. Killing Aid workers and organisers is wrong. Killing "Doug" Wood is less wrong and considerably so.

I'm not too sure of what Wood was doing in Iraq, whether he was there as a war profiteer or otherwise, but aren't engineers needed to rebuild the infrastructure that has been lost during the war?

I don't think I ever said he was doing it out of altruism, but regardless of their motivations, engineers will be needed over there sooner or later.

Has anyone caught the media conference that the Wood family had earlier today? I thought that they were very dignified - they were grateful that the kidnappers had given Douglas Wood his medical treatment, and that they don't hate the kidnappers.. a far cry from people wanting their tsunami money back. link

I find it funny that people point out the political interests of say alexander downer in this situation but not the sheik... Don't you guys think it's fairly likely that the Sheik was simply trying to further his own cause? He was also claiming that they would be releasing him shortly, and they never did... how long does it take to release someone? I also found it interesting that his advisor was trying to claim that the Sheik pointed the americans to where they were (a lie).

My assumption is too many people fear looking discriminatory or something...
i'm sure he had ulterior motives
though apart from downer he actually did something about the situation

although i guess he was in more of a position to do so...

There have been claims that the Sheikh, unintentionally, acted in a way that may have inflammed the situation at one stage. Downer covered the issue of finger pointing well, though.
