im at the end of yr 11 and im not sure if i should drop a subject and pick up mathematics extension 2.

my marks / ranks for my mid yearlies are as :

english 80% rank 1
mathematics 92.5 % rank 1
mathematics extension 90% rank 3
design and technology 79% rank 1
chemistry 80% rank 3
physics 89% rank 1
business studies 89% rank 4

my teacher has recommended me to pick up extension 2, which means i have to drop a subject (considering bus studies)

i just got back my end of yr results for just mathematics ( 90% rank 1 ) and ext maths ( 77% rank 1 ) .

my dad's not eager of me 'specialising' in 4U maths yet since i dont know what i will be doing in the future. However, i am considering bachelor of science ( chem engineering) at uni of melbourne.

Should i keep bus studies that will give me versatility or pick up ext 2 since it will probably help (and scales higher ;p)?

Thank you ! :D

You don't need business studies for science. You need maths though. Drop Business, do 4U Maths.

hi,
last year i was in the same situation as you...i did the three sciences, english advanced, maths ext1 and business...i also wanted to pick up ext2 as i enjoy maths but this would mean i would need to drop somehting...science is my love so i was not going to let go of any of them which left businesss...my dad being who he is would not let me do this as he thought it would impact my future decisions..it took a call to my business teacher for him to realise that you don't actually need to do business in highschool to do business in uni later (my dad wanted me to keep my options open..sounds like yours) he told my dad that his son never did any business or commerce related subjects in the hsc but is doing a business degree in uni now...so i dropped business....
only keep it if you enjoy it and don;t want to pick up extension 2

btw...i don't think there are any specific requirements for uni entry regarding subject choices (they are usually recommendations) unless you're applying for early entry...but just check with the different courses as they may be different for the ones you want to apply for..so don't quote me on this

My MX2 teacher says that it's practically impossible to get less than 50 in MX2. And as we all know, 50 in MX2 is like... a billion in General =P

So drop Business, and if your marks stay good - you'll do well. So a hell yeah to the thread title!

If you think youre going to enjoy 4U over business then do it. Just remember, extension 2 is a lot of work (way more than business). If youre 1st in 2U and 3U then you should be fine. It would help if you want to do science of any kind.
