UNSW - Assumed Knowledge: Maths, Chemistry, plus bio or earth and environmental science or physics or HSC Maths Ext 1(depending on chosen area of study)

USYD: Maths or Ext 1. Other assumed knowledge depends on chosen subject area

UTS: Any two units of science

So I guess it depends where you want to go.

But all these are all assumed knowledge they arent prerequisites so you wont automatically not get in if you dont study them.

environmental science is my first preference for uni next year so i've been talking to uni students and teachers and stuff.

It depends on what uni. At Sydney and UNSW they have Chemistry as assumed knowledge or recommended knowledge...one them cnt remember at this moment. at these unis prob best to do chem, BUT u could also do a bridging course.

At UTS (where i wana go) assumed is only any 2 units of science. I'm doing Bio only so yeah pretty good. I will be doing bridging course for chem tho just in care..

btw it also depends on what you want as a major which u can think of later. i plan on doing one on environmental bio so i wnt need much chem. it all depends on what you want to pursue and the uni...

if u dnt think you'll do good in chemistry, leave it for a bridging course so you can choose a subject you'll be stronger in for yrs 11 & 12

hope that helps :)

you know by assumed knowledge does that mean they expect you to know alredy or you must do it in hsc

yeah, once you get into the course, you do the bridging courses.

at UTS: 74 uai
syd : 81

cnt remember UNSW but if want check out the UAC guide for 09 ur careers advisor should have one.

well i can't predict what it will be in 2010 BUT in the last year, the UAI for ES at UTS went up by 3-4 points so it may increase again. As environmental concerns increase so will the ppl selecting ES, hence the uai will rise.

well yeah if u nt do science, not a good idea to choose science in uni, you learn a lot of basics in prelim and the HSC.

np glad i could help :)

yeah but it's not crucial as in you can learn it during the course too, but you will find it hard and will have to work harder.

I'm third year enviro at Newcastle.

I did earth and environmental science, which is very similar to some of the courses in uni.

Chemistry or bio would be fine too. For your HSC, I'd recommend E&E followed by Chem. Preferrably do both.

I wouldn't worry too much though, any two units of science should be fine. There isn't all that much chemistry in the degree if you must avoid it.
