P is a variable on the curve y = 2x^2 + 3 and O is the origin. Q is the point of the trisection of OP nearer the origin. Find the locus of Q.

Is the locus meant to be a equation or a coordinate........

O is the origin. Therefore (0,0). P is a variable. let it equal (x,y), and Q is the trisection of the interval PQ nearer the origin.

Yes, when it's trisected it means that the point cuts it into 3. In other words, M+N = 3...

Since it's nearer the origin it will be m = 1 ,, n = 2.

Then you do the ratio formula and you should get....

x = 2x/3 and y = 2y/3 ...

mehhhhh

Yeah it means its cut into 3 equal parts. that was in my yr 11 first 3u test and i like totally bombed out because I'd never seen it before but one of our classes did >.<

Wouldn't it be a 3:-2 division? If not, i'm quite sure you can just find midpoint OP, call it R, and then midpoint OR gives you the point...
