Im Curious as to how this flexible first year at USYD works. What kind of marks during the course would I have to obtain to be able to do Aerospace or Aeronautical engineering? How does my UAI effect it?

If you get the UAI for a particular stream, then opt for flexi, then you're still guaranteed access to any stream that your UAI would otherwise give you access to.

If you get Cr's in flexi you can get any course up to 95 UAI cutoff, if you get D's you can get any course up to 100.

I got a D avg first semester with not much work at all, so yeah.

Flexible stream A, pretty easy for the engineering disciplines, which you can bs your way to a D or HD, and engineering computing is a joke. If you're good at chem and maths (the other subjects), D is nothing.

Not too sure about stream B, but similar deal for maths and physics apply.

They should really make aeronautical (space) 80 or HD average.

i read in the uac book to transfer in sydney uni , they take half your uni mark and half your uai mark and base your acceptance on that if swithching after 1st years

for law it says its preferred a high 90s uai mark and average ds in uni could get you in,So im thinking the cut off for aerospace=99.4 ,would be pretty similar,therefor say if you got into engineering(flexible85 uai) wouldnt that like need a hd average to average up you marks combined with the uai

anyway ,are you averaging like ds in 1st year,because thats what i want to do something similar to you but just aeronautical engineering?

It doesn't work like that all the time, unis make their own rules. Waf/Templar is right.

I'd imagine templar and waf have D to HD averages.

The rules for engineering are slightly different, at least from 1st-->2nd year, and if you'll read handbooks about flexible engineering you'll see they're as I've stated in post 2.

cool is that just engineering courses or everything,say for example if i got a d avarage in 1st years does that mean i can do combine law

Nope, just streams within engineering. Law you'd still need your reasonable UAI and HD WAM's and whatnot.

In flexible first year engineering what do stream A and B mean?

For entry into civil, aero, mechanical, mechatronics, biomedical and chemical it is advised that you choose stream A. The introduction course covers these areas of specialisation to get you a taste of what each is like (poorly done except for civil though).

For entry into electrical, computer and space courses you're advised to do stream B. The introduction course is altered to reflect that.

In reality, it's no big deal. Provided you get your marks moving between the streams after first year is pretty easy. I did stream A but could easily move into aero (space) now if I wanted to.

Ok, say that i do stream B but i dont get the marks to do aerospace, does that mean i can only select an alternate course within stream B? because in the booklet only the last subject in the first semester is different between stream A and B, so i didnt think it wud be much of a problem to select courses from stream A... but yeh, i dunno.

Officially you should stick with stream B, but a change of stream is possible. I did stream A and could have easily done aeronautical (space) if I wanted to. However I don't think mechanics is offered as default in stream B, which is a prerequisite or assumed knowledge for many civil and mechanical courses. Apart from that there isn't much preventing you from going between the streams freely.

you can go between streams but all youll end up doing is having subjects to catch up on. Your booklet will tell you the streams that lead to certain disciplines.. and for some you have to choose your discipline after semester one eg chemical engineering.

I would really suggest you make up your mind now as to what discipline you wanna do even though your doing flexible... because youll just end up lengthening your degree if you pick the wrong stream.
