Oh I agree, but if you cant find it funny that a degree specialises in surfing. Well, youre silly.
They must of created it for SOME reason. Apart from making you and I laugh. :p

god, give the guy a break.
maybe he shouldnt have used the word "silly" (because i disagree with that as well) but it makes him laugh.
who cares if the thread seems stupid, you must surely at least see what he's trying to say.
laugh at the silly things in life instead of getting worked up trying to defend every single person who might get offended by this not-so-well thought out thread.

The funniest one i've seen is Master of Internet Studies, with a core subject covering, wait for it, how to use the Internet! The rest of the subjects sound a bit more complex but not by much. Also you can do a PhD in the field, one guy did his on grief players and TKers in MMORPGs.

Other than that i'm sure there are some unis offering comedy modules in their BA degrees.

Why do people need to poke fun at the choices made by others? If someone wishes to do a management course in Surfing Management, then so be it. Are you some enlightened member of the surfing industry who can bear witness to the "uselessness" of this course? Someone raised the Non-Flying Aviation course as an example of a "funny degree". If you bother to read about what this course entails, you will find it shares common components with Business, Engineering and Science courses, however the course is tailored to the needs of a specific industry. For a short time I did pilot training and desired that career path, and to this day take an interest in the aviation industry. As a result, I read about the many individuals who promote this course as very helpful to gaining employment with airlines. Infact, any pilot in the US wishing to enter into airline flying would find some similar qualification a necessity, despite bearing no relation to actual 'flying'.

My point? Offer your enlightened opinions only when they are infact enlightened through experience or research. Until then please refrain from comment. I can assure you that no one will miss such threads which have only succeeded in wasting 2 minutes of my life.

I dont find anything funny with a degree on surfing. Do you know how much pro surfers get paid (as well as all the other benefits they get) and they dont have to go to uni at all.

Why did you just contradict yourself by saying how much pro surfers can earn, insupport of why this uni degree exists, and then you said that the pros didn't even have to go to uni at all.

What i meant was that surfing is a career as much as business, law jobs are. So why would surfing be a silly degree.
Because there is not that much to teach about surfing? I mean honestly how can they fill up 2 years on an activity which is primarily physically skilled based?

Get a sense of humour and don't overanalyse things that could be perceived as funny frenchie and natstar.

You know there's a prof gay at usyd?
"Gay is a perfectly acceptable surname. It was passed down from the 'Ukrutu' tribe of Northern India and translated it means "wise". So why do you want to criticise someone for being wise?"

I saw one thing that is part of a degree. It was turf management or something. I'm like "okay...".

yes they are genuine degrees and im sure theres some its serious for. But the point of this thread is to point out weird and humerous degrees such as surfing (its funny because its the last thing you would think would have a degree).

and as for you natsar i got a little word of wisdom, if you dont like something. e.g. the topic of this thread... instead of whining about how much of a time waister it is, and how pointless and stupid... then bugger off and do something more productive. If you find something insulting or distasteful its not your job to critcise someone for excercising there right of free speach. Respect there views or leave. As the proverb goes if you cant say something nice about someone dont say anything at all. (with that said, yes you can always express your view as we can nall express ours. But if you have such problems with it your best bet is simply to stay away from such offending topics)

Believe me I have a sense of humour, and would laugh until the cows come home...if this thread actually were funny. Unfortunately I have to inform you it is a pathetic piece of crap. However, I will rate your witty Professor Gay remarks. You are quite clearly an individual who is full of humour and jest, and I shall learn from you.

What a great argument. Should in the future I find something insulting or distasteful, I shall respect your defense of free speech and not speak.

Yep. Thats great mate.

The same free speech that lets natstar express her problems with this thread, is the same free speech that lets you criticise her for criticising you. Réflechissez un peu.

I remember somebody did a Ph.D thesis on flatulence. Enthralling stuff, I'm sure.

yes i recognise the hypocritical aspect of my argument. im just defending their (and my) right to post a view that she does not agree with. People posting in this thread want to talk about potentially ammusing degrees. Yes natsar can express her view on how pointless this is, or how unamusing it is to her. Im just kindly suggesting to make the posting time of other members here more hospitable she could just stay out of discussions she doesnt aprove of. Yes nothing is stopping her, but the biggest annoyance of many administrators of free discussion forums are people like her who pick fights in every thread if they dont like what they are reading. IF this was a debate thread, then sure go right ahead. But how is complaining how pointless this thread is positive in any place.

With that said, im not going to do the mature thing and stay on topic. If anyone has a problem with my views, or my argument please feel free to send all correspondance to:

OR easier just send a PM and ill answer them in the order in which i recieve them :) (i can still crack a joke or two in a rant cant i? :p)

On topic now: how about we extend the funny/silly university courses to interstate and overseas

Pffft, you probably think it's a ripping good laugh to see a man dressed in womens clothing.
