i've seriously never heard of most of the stuff you guys are talking about. idk if i'm the one that's missing out, but i listened to some of it and it sounds way more metal or some shit than what i would normally consider when someone says 'hardcore punk' (whoo labelling genres yay). i would've thought of shit like minor threat, h20, have heart, gorilla biscuits, black flag ..

Grindcore and stuff like that are all off-shoots from hardcore punk. Basically guys that were into hardcore as well as metal and wanted to make music.

Most of the stuff I've seen listed is about as far from Hardcore as you can get whilst maintaining some slight connection to it. If you want some proper hardcore listen to bands like
Terror
Miles Away
Bad Blood
Carpathian
Word Up!
50 Lions
Relentless

Then with more new school metal influenced stuff I'd go with bands like
Shinto Katana
Parkway Drive
Confession
Stick To Your Guns

None of this slow, tough-guy bullshit.

If you want metal influenced stuff, listen to grind or powerviolence, not watered down melo-death with 26 chugga chug breakdowns per song so all the wankers in flat caps and basketball shorts can show all the girls on the outside of the pit just how manly they can be.

Ok, I recognise all the bands you've listed as the forefathers of hardcore and that they started the movement and that's hardcore in it's rawest form and I've listen to all those bands some don't think I'm so fucking uneducated prick who thinks he knows everything about 'hardcore' 'çause he's been to two Parkway Drive gigs. Have you even listened to half of the bands I listed? I'll give you credit on the fact that Terror are a 'tough guy' band but do you realise how much they do for the hardcore scene internationally and how long they've been in the game? Bad Blood also slightly walk down this road but hardcore has always had anger in it, whether it be directed at drugs, gangs, conformism, politics or just the world and this expression through music is an outlet for a lot of people, not just the ones making it but the one's going to the concert. The fact that this music is so emotionally fueled is pretty much where moshing started. I know it's evolved into fighting invisible ninjas which I partake in, but I still get up there and show my support for more traditional bands the proper way.

The rest of the bands; Word Up!, 50 Lions, Carpathian, Relentless and Miles Away are at the forefront of Australian hardcore and are really nothing like this 26 breakdowns a minute stuff or this tough guy stuff, which leads me to believe you've never heard them. Which really is a shame that you're stuck in the roots of the forefathers with the mentality that 'hardcore will never be the same'. You seem to be too caught up in grind which I can stand but not in large amounts. It's pretty much as close to metal as you can get and I don't really associate it anywhere near hardcore punk, most of those guys really don't like punk or anything to do with it and a lot of them hate straight edge.

You probably came up with your 'wanker in a flat cap blah blah' due to my name, it's pretty much just there for the lols. Although I do mosh, I do it because I enjoy it, not to 'pick up scene gurlzz'. 26 breakdowns per minute is actually still pretty fun to listen to and especially to go see live. Not to mention if you bothered to listen to them or read the lyrics you might change your mind. I could equally say 'Geez that's not real hardcore, that's just a bunch of guys in Lamb of God t-shirts with shoulder length hair doing the windmill and throwing the fucking rock-on gesture' about grind.

I probably haven't changed your mind but that's just my opinion on the matter. Enjoy my wall of text.

Oh dear.

First of all,

Secondly, no one is going to take some guy with the username "mosh warrior" who listens to 50 Lions seriously. Fucken HOODIES IN THE PIT.

that 80s 'hardcore' punk shit is awful, 50 lions suddenly doesn't seem so bad in comparison.

Paragraph 1:
Yes, I have listened to half the bands you've listed and they're very dull. Also, you admitting that you go in the pit to fight invisible ninjas isn't helping your case.

Paragraoh 2:
So the Nothing to Lose and self-titled EPs from Carpathian don't have a huge amount of breakdowns in them? Oh, you mean Isolation? Well that entire LP is so fucking slow it's like the entire songs are breakdowns. Let's write a song about graffiti you guise.

No, I'm not too caught up in 80s hardcore, anyone who's seen my posts here will tell you that, but you're right, hardcore will never be the same because everything is different compared to back then. Please stop saying forefathers, we're talking about punk not fucking ancestral roots.

I'm glad that you've made the time to conduct an intricate psycho-analysis on me, with my taste in music the focal point. If by "caught-up in grind" you mean I like it enough to talk about it to people then yes, I guess I'm caught up. If you mean that I'm so caught up I can't listen to contemporary hardcore punk then you'd be wrong. Just because I don't listen to 50 Lions or Break Even or another one of your Aussie punk heroes doesn't mean my ears aren't open.

Grindcore is just punk taken to it's extremes, the same way metal is rock music taken to extremes. That's quite simple to understand, really. Most of them don't like punk you say? The entire reason grind started was because people wanted to mix punk with metal. The entire reason grind continues is because people want to mix punk with metal. And so what if they hate straight-edge? Hardcore bands hate straight-edge. Ian MacKaye hates straight-edge and he accidently started the entire thing.

Paragraph 3: I've listened, I've read, I got bored. Maybe lyrics about how living in suburbia is tough or how daddy was a prick resonates more within you than it does with me.

i better get rep for this

I'll deal with this is order
1. I used grammar
2. I'm not straight edge, I also said my name is pretty much for lols
3. I've listened to grindcore, I find that pretty dull
4. The rest is pretty much each to their own

Sad truth of the matter is that punk in it's pure form is dead. No one makes it any more. All we can do is grasp at the off-shoots now :/

But hey, there is value to some of the modern stuf too :]
