Hey

I think im shit at law

This post is after spending teh last 2 hours reading a 2 page case and not understanding anything. Not exagerrating.

Can I please have some advice on how to read cases effectively? I'm talking about handling the paragraph-long sentences, quadruple negatives, esoteric pompous bs archaic english used, and other language obstacles.

If not, where can I seek (non psychiatric) help for my numerous problems?

anyway it takes a while to adjust to how judges write their bullshit
i find now that they abuse the comma alot to make these huge sentences

just takes a while, im sure S Rank people wont have many problems for too long.

At this rate I can't imagine myself learning or "getting used to" reading cases
Even the non-case material is pretty dense stuff

The case i was just on is called Namatjira v Raabe [(1959) 100 CLR 664] but all cases are the same. Every time I reach a case its deja vu and the feeling of shit all over. Waah i still havent finished my reading for tomoro so I have to read on the train.

I hate my lecturer.

lol I happen to love Jane Austen's writing style, but anyhow...

Sucks to be you GB, 2nd in maths and sucking in English, and using your marks to run head on into Law

Find enough time to actually digest the content. Time is what I find hardest to cope with. (Since it takes you 2 hrs to read 2 pages).

Therefore 1hr/page.

Say we read 60 pages a week (which is an understatement)...= 60 hrs/week.

60hrs/week x 13 (ours is 13 anyway)week semester= 780 hrs/semester...

on top of your other readings.
Imagine if you had two or three law subjects/semester...

it takes you 1 hr to digest a page? bro you're waddling over immaterial details.

i find that i comprehend much more when i force myself to scan-read cases, even though i only digest 50% of it.

how do you guys read cases? heavily fixated on individual words, reiterating each sentence mentally 3 times? or just scan read twice?
