This thread is a nice thought experiment, but the truth is it's impossible and not even worth considering.

International recognition is another thing altogether... you'd have to prove to the UN that you were a group of people joined for some reason (e.g. by ethnicity) that had no sovereignty.

Indigenous Australians would have the best chance at this, but why would they want to cut off eligibility for centrelink?

Nah you see states don't sell territory. Unlike individuals and corporations they will not make peaceful contractual agreements.

States will cling to every scrap of land they can command, and will never give an inch unless they are violently conquered.

Setting up a microstate in Australia is impossible. The only options for libertarians are seasteading or buying territory from a corrupt warlord or ruler of a third world country.
