lol. my friend got her dress in yr 10. Sh was gonna wear it 2 our yr 10 formal but decided to keep it for this years insted. She spilt some water on it but, and it's a weird kind of material so it has a mark from the water now. She sounds just as paranoid as you.

mine's a halterneck, hankerchief-style top that mum got back from bali (way <$20 im pretty sure)
& the skirt's my year 10 dress that my aunty cut down...& im using the shawl thing that matches the skirt as a waist band (caus she put elastic on the waist of the skirt)...& we've got a pretty hair clip that kinda matches the design on the top, we're using it to hold the shawl in place on my hip
then i've got my year 10 shoes & bag (both white, pretty much match eachother & they'll match my top
all up, probably < $50...if you include the top, materials for my aunt (which we didnt have to pay for) & the hair clip.....
the hair/makeup'll definitely cost more than whole the outfit put together, even including buying all the stuff im re-using from year 10 (hair's around 50-70, dunno bout makeup yet)

Mine was $200ish + shoes were $90 + then makeup + hair + bag + going out after

Even tho mines less than $800 (as if! it's one night peoples! I haven't even looked at my yr10dress since I changed out of it) ... its black cocktail with pleated straps and flowy down the bottom - I think alotta girls at my school are gonna go in those sorts of dresses seeing as there's approx 280 girls in my year ... yeah ...

my dress was $130 (down from $350) jewellery was $60, shoes $40 (down from $75) and my bag is $20..... hair is gonna be about $90 so thats $340 all up plus the ticket which was $107. and I haven't figured out how i'm getting to the formal yet. so all up the current total is $447.

saved $255 on the dress and the shoes and i'm saving a further ~70 or so by doing my own nails and makeup.

Its expensive being a girl :(
