What colour are u talking about?
Grey= the person who repped u has <50 post
Red= Neg rep (takes away rep points)
Green= normal rep
Light green= above a certain # of rep points
Gold= 1500+ rep points

When you rep someone (click on the scales under there name) u can add a comment

The purpose of reps is to thank someone for something or show appreciation for help or similar
