Rather than going up to her by yourself and trying to start a conversation if you're not confident try getting a couple of your friends to go over and start a conversation with her when her friends are around, ie. make it a group exercise. that way you get to talk to her and its not obvious what you're trying to do. Or see if you have a mutual friend and get in that way. I dunno.
