Lol at people not realising that minimum wage of $15 is for people over 21.
Also, fast food places always look good on resumes, they may be shit but try to get a place at McDonalds or some where because it shows you can handle stressful situations, punctual and all that because fast food places don't keep shit employees. My dad was a manager for a leading local Building Society and if someone had worked at McDonalds during high school he normally gave them a second look.

Hobbies like refereeing are always good. I received junior referee of the year 2 years ago and it was brought up in one of my interviews. And being a referee shows you can handle pressure and potentially abusive people. Especially if you manage to work your way to the top.(Not that hard if you aren't retarded.) I currently hold a NNSW coaches accreditation, assessors accreditation and level 3 referee accreditation. Things like that look good because it shows you like going the extra mile.

Or you could just do what I did, hand resumes around get one interview, go talk to the local pharmacy where you did work experience and get a job there. I was out of school and into a job within a week. Been working full time this year and wouldn't trade it. Gap years are the best idea, seriously, all you people that jumped straight into uni are idiots.

Oh also, you aren't a leading competitor against the younger kids if you don't have experience. Why hire someone who has no experience and will cost more when you can higher someone younger, more easily able to adapt to social situations(Yes, I'm poking fun at you Shadow) and will be cheaper?

Also, look through your local classifieds and if there is ANYTHING that you're able to do that doesn't require set skills, apply.

So are you spending your gap year working at a pharmacy? (serious question)

Yeah, wanted to do something useful. Plus at the start of the year I was looking at going into pharmacy. Now I'm not so a pretty productive gap year.

Hmm, I did work experience at a law firm - I might ask them if they have any... work. When I was there, I just did some general filing and administrative work. It was pretty good.

lolol

I applied for at LEAST 40 places right after uni started this year. Note that I had previous retail experience, still, not 1 single reply.

Do some voluntary work at salvations army, at least you'll feel good about yourself and help the needy. And, it'll look good on your resume.
