Government tends to do things without our permission for example they put fluoride in water knowingly that it's a toxin that is bad for us.

Internet filters are just another example of government forcing people to do things that they shouldn't have to do and isn't good for us.

Get used to more of crap like this in the future.

The low fluoride levels abide by WHO guidelines, and it does help our teeth. But yeah, point taken, it's a form of forced medication and that I don't like either.

However in the case of fluoride, it's not causing us harm and is a benefit to society, because it reduces the prevalence of many problems involved with teeth decay etc. from occuring.

Though as far as internet filtering is concerned; in my opinion the plan is a strict violation of our liberties, unless it is closely monitered and only illegal sites are blocked. What I don't like about it though, is the potential for the government to censor more and more, to eventually censor sites who hold opposing views. This plan would provide the infrastructure or means at least, through which the government could achieve this in the future.

It's not a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned. This is the 3rd or 4th step in creating a Rudd nanny state.

Closet neoconservative detected lah?

"Government intervention is a violation of our liberties! Unless it provides an easy way to silence those annoying amoral minorities."

You lost the moral high-ground when you said that you'd support the blocking of 'illegal' sites if it was technologically feasible.

Erm... the sites you linked to don't violate international law Trefoil. Sites selling child pornography, even children, sending mass-email scams through hacking and viruses, these sites do violate international and federal law.

Do you even understand what neoconservative is Trefoil?

Seriously, sometimes I wonder if English is your mother tongue; because you're constantly taking my words out of context.

If you'd read my post, I mentioned quite a few times, that the internet filtering scheme should not be introduced because governments can not be trusted to remain objective and only block strongly illegal sites. I am strongly against the oppression of opposing views and this scheme would promote that, so again, I am against it.

A much more sensible option in my opinion, is just to enforce the laws by forcing website hosting organisations to shut down sites knowingly violating the law. (This is what was just recently done in America.) Even though these sites just move off-shore and continue, it would send a strong message. In the end though, blocking illegal sites is too ambitious, because it requires, not only the compliance, but enforcement of all states of international law... and many just do not have the infrastructure of skills to do this yet; and certainly until they do, there are many more important issues to be worrying about.

Poverty in Africa, instability in the Middle East and Africa, the Millennium Development Goals, etc. etc.

Also, this just out of curiousity, why did you add 'lah' at the end of your first sentence?

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you recall what Clemenceau once said about war?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No, I don't think I do, sir, no.
Gen. Ripper: He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids….Mandrake, do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk... ice cream. Ice cream, Mandrake, children's ice cream!
Mandrake: Lord, Jack.
Gen. Ripper: It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face.

You use it to brush your teeth not drink it.

There's a difference.

Fluoride is a key component in rat poisons and was used in the gulags to make prisoners more passive and easier to deal with.

Drinking a certain amount can cause health problems and major damage.

we learnt about the internet filtering in IPT. I don't think it's worth the money the Government has to spend on it.
