IT freaks, whats the reason of the memory available in a medium is usually less then the amt they claim it to be?

Because formatted capacities in memory is read differently along platforms. Hard drive manufacturers define a gigabyte as 1000MB, while Windows defines a gigabyte as 1024MB. Therefore, your ipod/hdd/flash drive always has less storage than you think.
haha logically answered!

i never realised thats the reason behind the less capacity of mediums as claimed.

Also could potentially be due to the fact that the formatted capacity of a drive is often significantly less than the raw capacity.

I bought an ipod! Yay! A 20gb photo... I'm affording it by selling heaps of my old shit and stuff on ebay lol. It's so cool... I'm one of the cool people now hahaha.

Nanos are awesome, I saw one today. The size is great, but the main problem for me was the small storage size- if I was going to buy an ipod, I was told by my parents buy the bog one, there is no point in buying a small one. Nanos are so tiny you seriously could fit it in your wallet... girls I reckon you could even wear it down your bra. Nanos rock and I am sure they are going to sell a shitload of them.

call me ignorant but is this right: 2gb = about 500 songs, 4gb = about 1000 songs?? and they're the only sizes the nano comes in?

also; how much storage does a mini have, and why are they discontinued?
