Viva Chavez!

Forever will your name be carved into the history books for your heroic actions even when you didn't have to make them. But for what is good, just and right, you did what you felt you had to.

Chavez has led the way. Now is the time for arab leaders to follow his example.

Yeah it's been in the mainstream media for a few days now that Israel broke the ceasefire.
Yeah... but no one really cares about this small fact.

btw: 660 Palestinian dead so far. 3000 injured. 11 Israeli dead, don't know about injured.

Reuters said:
(Recasts with ambassador expulsion, adds Chavez, quote, background)

CARACAS, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Venezuela expelled the ambassador to Israel on Tuesday in protest over the offensive in Gaza only hours after leftist President Hugo Chavez called the attacks a Palestinian "holocaust."

The socialist Chavez, a harsh critic of Israel and the United States, in recent years has frequently withdrawn Venezuela's diplomatic envoys amid bilateral disputes and last year kicked out the U.S. ambassador over a conflict involving allied Bolivia.

The OPEC nation's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Israel's campaign constituted "flagrant violations of International Law" and the use of "state terrorism."

"For the reasons mentioned above, the government of Venezuela has decided to expel the Ambassador of Israel and part of the personnel of the Embassy of Israel," the statement said.

The Israeli embassy did not respond to phone calls requesting comment.

Chavez in 2006 threatened to break ties with Israel over its military campaign in Lebanon in a war of words that led both nations to withdraw their envoys.

On Monday he accused Washington of poisoning the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to destabilize the Middle East and justify U.S.-backed Israeli incursions into Arab countries.

Israel is under international pressure to reach a ceasefire with Hamas militants and halt an offensive that has killed nearly 600 Palestinians, including more than 40 in a U.N. school sheltering civilians.

"The Holocaust, that is what is happening right now in Gaza," Chavez said in televised comments earlier on Tuesday.

"The president of Israel at this moment should be taken to the International Criminal Court together with the President of the United States."

The United States, which Chavez describes as a decadent empire, firmly backs Israel -- its principal ally in the region.

I'm not Muslim nor would it matter if I was. Any rational person can see that the recent attack on Gaza is absolutely disgusting, despite what your opinion might be on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict as a whole.
Despite your inability to type properly, possibly due to fat fingers, you did hit a good point about the shooting of rockets into Israel. Was killing 660 people and injuring 3000 a suitable response? No. Launching a attack into region where 50% of people are children and 80% are refugees? No. Is it fair that Hamas launches rockets at Israeli civilians because they are too chicken shit to attack the soldiers? Fuck no.

Yeah I should have separated those two as they weren't related.

Bob Brown needs to be louder during these events. I've heard basically nothing from him.

Has anybody posted Rudd's response to the conflict? It's more than satisfactory in my opinion.

He called for an immediate cease fire and an end to the humanitarian crisis and Israel's blockade.

Everything else ofcourse is "not piss people off" control. He said Israel has a right to defend itself. Duh! that's common sense.

"It is critical ... for Israel to meet its humanitarian obligations under international humanitarian law, towards the people of Gaza, ensuring that they have access to basic goods, food and humanitarian assistance and medical supplies." - Kevin Rudd

So yes, a very good response from our Prime Minister.

Jerusalem Post said:
How do Israelis feel when our artillery strikes a UN-run school building, killing dozens of people? The answer is: deeply shaken, profoundly distressed, sorrowful at the catastrophic loss of life.

But we do not feel guilt. We are angry at Hamas for forcing this war on us; for habitually using Gaza's civilians as human shields; and - in this latest outrage - for transforming a center where people had sought refuge into a shooting gallery and weapons depot.

To paraphrase Golda Meir, there may come a time when we will forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, "but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons."

Images of carnage take on a momentum of their own, and it requires a certain amount of savvy to realize that, sometimes, a picture is not worth 1,000 words. Images that jumble people's thinking and distort reality are less than worthless - they're propagandistic.

News consumers rely on journalists to keep them from being duped. But what if the media becomes part of the problem?

Take, for instance, a report by Gaza-based BBC producer Rushdi Abu Alouf from Shifa Hospital. The segment opened as frenzied crowds crying Allahu akbar encircled ambulances bringing war-wounded to Shifa's emergency room. The camera took us inside. This "you-are-there" treatment, patented by Al Jazeera, provides a voyeuristic, nearly pornographic, view from inside emergency rooms, operating theaters and morgues.

The BBC producer interviewed a Norwegian physician, Mads Gilbert, presumably to get the view of an impartial foreigner, a Good Samaritan who had arrived in Gaza days earlier to volunteer his medical skills. Gilbert, clad in green scrubs, stethoscope slung around his neck, expressed outrage that international aid agencies were absent from the hospital. He called what is now happening in Gaza the worst man-made medical disaster he'd ever seen.

The Israelis, prompted the producer, were claiming that most of the killed were gunmen - Gilbert's cue to assert that of the hundreds of patients flooding Shifa, maybe two were "militants." He elucidated: 2,450 had been injured, 45 percent of them women and children - and that didn't even include innocent men. Twenty-five percent of the dead were innocents; 801 children were "killed or injured."

Faced with heartrending images of blood-drenched hospital floors, and funeral processions bearing white-shrouded toddlers, who could be bothered to recall that Gaza's Palestinians empowered Hamas knowing full well that its raison d'etre is relentless struggle against the existence of a Jewish state? Or that some of Hamas's leadership is operating out of that very Shifa hospital? Or that Hamas hijacks international medical aid intended for the Gazan masses, diverting it to special locations where its gunmen are being treated?

When readers of Britain's Guardian are confronted by a front-page photo of a father collapsed in front of his three dead children, they can be forgiven for losing sight of the bigger picture: that between 2001-2008, over 8,000 flying bombs were launched at Israel, traumatizing an entire generation of Israeli children; and that unless the IDF manages to stop Hamas, the months ahead could see life in metropolitan Tel Aviv become as perilous as it is in Sderot.

And when readers of London's Times see the headline: "We're wading in death, blood and amputees. Pass it on - shout it out" they, too, may be forgiven for overlooking the fact that Hamas purposely situates its launchers in densely populated areas.

When the Arizona Republic reports: "Israel ignores calls for peace," a photo isn't even necessary.

A WORD about Dr. Mads Gilbert: It turns out he's no neutral medical man, but active in "solidarity work with Palestinians" for 30 years. Responding to 9/11, Gilbert didn't rush to New York's Bellevue Hospital to offer his services. Instead, he defended the moral right of the "oppressed" to have launched that attack.

Too many news outlets have allowed their coverage of Gaza to be agenda-driven, to willfully disregard the duty of presenting news and images in context.

Cynically thrusting pictures of dead toddlers at readers and viewers obfuscates truth, bedevils news consumers, and robotically demonizes those "who could do such a thing."

What a devious way of giving succor to the uncompromising fanatics who are really to blame for the horror of it all.
If this is the way the majority of Israeli people think, then these people are scumbags who deserve to rot.

excuse me? Neb posted a link before [i think] and i did too, it shows that Israel killed Palestinians in November last year, over a month before Hamas fired at Israel.

This isn't really a 'response'. Israel in general like to kill civilians. It's their thing.

Also, Hamas has killed Israeli soldiers, they injured and killed over 35 in one attack yknow?

I'm not sure if anyone here has seen this [or i posted it before:/] but:
Remember These Children 2000 Memorial
TOTALS SINCE SEPT 2000:
Israelis: 123

TOTALS SINCE SEPT 2000:
Palestinians: 1050

Yes, it's fairly obvious 'Hamas' targets Israeli children, and Israel only kill terrorists

Sam; Israel will 100% keep killing people, and once this is over and they decide they've killed enough people for the time being, everyone will be trading with them and it'll be like this never happened. Therefore, him sayind it's wrong isn't really doing anything, is it? I mean it's only words.

@the school bombing;
Doctors said all the dead were either people sheltering in the school or residents of Jabalya refugee camp, in the north of the Gaza Strip.
Al Jazeera English - Middle East - Israel kills dozens at Gaza school

ISRAEL IS HELPING THE PALESTINIANS! They're totally only killing terrorists, and they are not in any way targetting civilians.

Every leader of Israel should be punished, this isn't 'protecting citizens'. >:[

I think these countries need to be criticised for being in close proximity to a massive humanitarian crisis as well as one of the most evil states in existence, and yet continuing to do nothing. If New Zealand was acting the way Israel does, I would expect Australia to step in and do something. And yet Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and even openly anti-Israel countries like Syria and Iran sit there and do nothing about these tyrants. It's unacceptable.

The civilians in those countries WANT their governments to get involved and send people to help Hamas and the people living in Gaza though. Some would enter if they could, but their countries don't allow it.

You can curse the government, but not the people.

I'm not unconvinced that this Israeli push wont break Hamas and Palestinian terrorism once and for all. One or both sides are incapable of negotiating with civility - perhaps this effort to aggressively smash this lingering resistance to Israel's right to exist is the only real solution? The only real way to get Palestine to seriously come to the table?
