Kinda confused. What is a device driver and configuration? (Connect hardware peripherals)
Device driver tells OS how to interact with the device. Interfaces the device to the OS.

A device driver is software which allows a peripheral to communicate with the other components of a computer (eg OS, other software apps, other hardware components etc etc).

Just like how a car driver is useless without arms, a peripheral connected to a computer is useless without a device driver.

part c of parrallel serial bit-

Serial - transmits 8 bits (1byte) in a row through 1 cable
Parallel - transmits 1byte at a time through 8 cables, 1 bit through each cable (hence parallel)

For both of these, data can only travel in one direction through each cable/pin.
Half-Duplex - data only travels in 1 dir at 1 time
Full-Duplex - data travels in both dir at same time

To acheive full-duplex in serial and parallel the number of pins/cables need to be doubled.

Oh ok.. thanx. I get it now. I was confused with device manager and driver.

What about configuration and IDE? Kinda in a hurry now.

The marking guidelines stated confusion between serial/parralel and simplex/half-duplex/duplex modes. But i guess if you used em correctly, it would get ya the extra marks.

Configuration? Doesnt that just allow for changing the settings of how a component communicates with the rest of the computer, or how it behaves in a certain situation? Like say modem configuration, things like error correction method and stuff like that?

EDIT: IDE...hmmm (runs for cover coz he doesnt really know.)

Hehe i think its an interface for mass storage devices to transfer files, with the controller in the actual drive (eg Hard drive).

IDE stands for Intelligent Drive Electronics

EDIT 2: What a fluke it does stand for that :S

Sorry i meant by configuration as giving examples. I'm a bit too vague at this section. I know configuring for CMOS but would like to know for other peripherals like the modem u just mention.

Crap... IDE stands for Intelligent Drive Electronics. I thought Integrated Drive Electronics. I should double check this.

Umm it stands for both (see webopedia.com)

Examples of configuring the modem?

You can change parameters such as

Flow control: outlines method of handshaking
Parity Bit: states presence of parity bit or not
Baud Rate: number of electrical symbols sent per second
BPS: number of bits per second
Start/stop bit: indicates presence of start/stop bit for asynchronous transfer

Hope thats what you mean :|

- The chance of being caught and coping a huge fine
- The lost of a job if piracy is done in the workplace
- Lawsuits
- Goal sentence
- Free PROGRAMS !!!! (saves the individual user money but i would put that as a answer in the HSC )
- The company loss of money can affect the amount of jobs available which raises the cost of the individual program to make a living which in return raises the cost of software which then raise the rate at which piracy occurs
